We spent 10 amazing days in Ale and Chris’ granja. Their warm welcome and the great infrastructure made us feel at home instantly. The food was amazing, and cooking was great for us to share time with our hosts and the other volunteers. We enjoyed the work which was very varied, mainly in the garden. We are very grateful to have shared time with Ale and Chris who are such interesting and inspiring people. Best of luck with all the projects for 2026 and we hope to see you soon !

We spent two weeks with Maria and Leo on their farm and had an intense, exciting time with highs and lows. The farm is beautifully located in the middle of the mountains, and the journey there alone is a small adventure. It is literally a the road to the farm continues on to a small village and ends there—no one comes here unless they truly belong here. The surrounding area is basically only accessible by car or motorbike, or via very demanding hikes up and down the steep roads. As far as the eye can see: mountains. We had our own cabina with a breathtaking view of the mountains and fruit trees stretching as far as you can see. Leo and Maria live in the main house, where meals are also cooked and shared together. When you are here, you truly become part of the family. Life is simple, sustainable, and in harmony with nature. Leo and Maria live with and from nature—together with many animals (chickens, dogs, cats, bees, birds, insects…). The day starts early, between 4:30 and 6 a.m., with roosters crowing and feeding the animals, and usually ends around 7 p.m., when everyone is tired and goes to bed. There are no clear working hours here—because life on the farm fills the entire day, seven days a week. This was challenging for us, as we are not used to this lifestyle, and we had to consciously set boundaries from time to time to make sure we were doing well. The description of 5–6 hours of work per day did not quite match our experience; we had to actively ask for free time or days off, otherwise we would have continued to be fully involved at all times. The concept of collaboration here means truly becoming part of the family and immersing yourself one hundred percent in this way of life. For that, we are very grateful. Cooking, eating, and working together and experiencing what it means to have organic farming as a life’s purpose—practiced in a traditional and authentic way. Maria is the soul of the house. She radiates an incredible amount of positive energy, perceives the people around her very intuitively, and often tries to read from their faces what they might need. She is sensitive, kind-hearted, and met us with great patience when it came to our Spanish skills. She always invested a lot of energy to make us feel comfortable and included. Leo knows every single plant on his land. His eyes light up when he starts talking. He knows all the animals and can tell stories about symbioses between leafcutter ants and fungi. He is deeply passionate about what he does, strongly connected to nature, and genuinely enjoys sharing his knowledge. The first days were beautiful, exciting, but also exhausting. We met Leo’s family—the visits there were a wonderful change of pace and offered fascinating insights into the family history and the mentality of the locals. We also experienced Christmas and New Year’s Eve, which, however, do not play a big role here, as farm life does not pause for holidays. Leo can hardly sit still anyway, and Maria is influenced by that energy as well. During our stay, the renovation of the main house began, turning the entire place into a large, loud construction site. That was the point when we started to feel a bit lost and regretted being there at exactly that time instead of at another. The sense of connection gradually faded. Both Maria and Leo were ill and afterwards often very stressed. A clear division of roles emerged: the men worked on the construction site, while we worked more on our own and suddenly felt quite isolated and no longer truly part of everything. We continued to cook and help for everyone, which at times did not feel entirely on equal footing. Leo was often grumpy and impatient, likely due to the tension caused by the house renovation, and Maria was sent back and forth a lot. The initial magic slowly faded, which we found very unfortunate. In all the hustle and bustle, it was sometimes unclear which tasks we were supposed to take on. At another time, we would probably have experienced much more of actual farm life: working together in the vegetable garden, harvesting fruit, doing whatever tasks the respective season brings. As a result, we were only able to get a limited glimpse into permaculture and cultivation practices. Nevertheless, this time was an experience we would not want to miss. Leo and Maria are special people living in a special place. They are creating something truly valuable, something they can be absolutely proud of.

I stayed with Niclas and Marie for two months over christmas. One alone and the second one another workawayer joined, with who I had a lot of fun. The work at the stable was, except for some special tasks from day to day, always the same so you could have your own routine really quick. It was mostly feeding the horses, bringing them out or back to the stable and sometimes grooming them. Marie even gave me lessons in riding and groundwork, which was really interesting because her kind of training was news to me. I was a bit anxious to stay over christmas with a new family but it turned out to be super special and wholesome. Marie and Niclas and also their families included me and my fellow workawayer in all the activities, showed us swedish traditions and culture and made me feel welcome from day one and I am really glad to have ended up at their place. Both are really friendly people with a lot of knowledge and humor. We had good laughs:) They even gave me the opportunity to take a trip Stockholm for a weekend, which I am really grateful for! Thank you so much for having me!

Thank you so much for this AMAZING experience. This was my first Workaway, and I could not have asked for a better one :) I really enjoyed staying in the place with Ninon, Pablo, and Lulu. From the very beginning, everything was clearly explained, and communication was always easy and kind. We always knew what to do, and we felt comfortable asking questions at any time. We felt very welcome in the place, and we had such a great time surrounded by nature. The location is beautiful, and being there every day was a real pleasure. We helped with different kinds of tasks, which made the experience varied and meaningful. It felt good to contribute and be part of what they are building. I am also very grateful that they welcomed me, my girlfriend, and our dog. That made the experience even more special for us! I wish the best to the family while they continue rebuilding this place, and I am very happy to have been part of it. I hope we can meet again at some point :)

I stayed at the Eco Village in Changbin for 1 week with Senpou. It was a great and new experience for me! Senpou is a very nice and humorous person and we even cooked always together (because I don't know how to cook 😅). At work I cut the grass and in my free time and also for breakfast Senpou brought me to beautiful sightseeing spots, for example the cave, the beach, near to the King Kong mountain and more. On my last day we went to the hot spring and Senpou even had a gift for me. I'm very happy that my path took me to the eco village. See you again 🙏

I has such a special experience staying with Janaka, pushing my leaving date back multiple times, ending up staying for two months. The foundation Janaka runs out of his resort is such an amazing cause having seen the impact with my own eyes and feel honoured to have been able to contribute. The property itself is amazing, completely immersed in nature whilst being so easily accessible from Weligama. Weligama is also the perfect location to stay along the south coast of Sri Lanka, I couldn’t recommend everything more. I’m already planning my next trip back.

Hello Johaness, I hope you are doing well? I wanted to write to thank you from the bottom of my heart; this stay has marked me for life. In addition to the beauty of the place, I was surrounded by wonderful people. It's incredible to have met people from such different backgrounds in one single place, each with their own particularities. We did so many activities, and I loved that at your place, every day is different: there is always something to do, while still leaving us a lot of freedom. Thank you again for your warm welcome and that of your loved ones; I was very touched by all the love that radiates from you. I hope the potatoes will be enough for this winter. I wish you all the best, thank you infinitely for everything, and see you soon 😊

This was really really nice and fun to welcome Kobi, who brought so much to our house : his love for languages as a cosmopolitan young man, his humour, his depth for conversations, his cooking (yes ! yes ! Kobi revealed himself to be a great cook, for example we really appreciated his banana cake, the best we ever ate). For my kid of 12 years, he was fun to be with for talking english, playing , sharing basket ball sessions with some other young friends of my son, skateboard rides, good conversations on the way to school. It is easy and nice to talk with Kobi, who understands, adapts himself, and welcomes challenges as the one we offered him : a family and friends collective construction of a wall of dry stones. He was willing and present and did a great job. He also plainly participated in a workshop I led for young children during The Christmas fair at school - helping very young children to create small candles in bee wax. Our friends and neighbours did also really loved the presence of Kobi in our home. We are grateful we could have the opportunity to meet him. Realiable, Trustful, respectful, nice, fun.

Unfortunately, I'm only now getting around to write this feedback. We stayed with Andrea & George last year in September and October and had an absolutely wonderful time. We really enjoyed working with them in this beautiful area. We always had new and varied tasks to do, which also taught us a lot. Andrea and George are loving and interest people which whom we spent lovely evenings and good conversations. They were always flexible regard to working hours and always gave us tips with activities around the area. La Ciotat and the area offers many different ways to enjoy the free time. We went on lots of hikes and visited beautiful french markets and beaches in the region. Thank you for the wonderful time! We can highly recommend them😊.

Our stay at White Mountain was very inspiring. Steve and Mickey were wonderful hosts who inspired us throughout our stay. We fell in love with the dogs, spending time with them in the bush and by the creeks. The place is perfect for connecting with nature and wildlife, right on your doorstep, and exploring the stunning, diverse landscapes. We loved the flexibility to immerse ourselves in permaculture projects, observe the beehives, and experience the full potential of the land. Off-grid living here was a huge inspiration for us and our future plans. The homestead is beautifully restored, fully eco-friendly, with lovely spaces and terrace for creativity and reflection. White Mountain is a rare combination of nature, sustainability, and inspiration – we are very grateful for our time here.

For my first workaway, my stay on Timothy's farm was a great experience. Even though I applied on short notice, I could start there quickly and stayed there for about 5 weeks from November to December. The area around the farm is breathtaking. The work only took 3 to 5 hours a day and this gave plenty of time to discover Schull and the surroundings. It's an idyllic city next to the ocean. The work with the ponys was really rewarding since they were all so cute and nice, especially Paddington, Honey and Sorrento. The cottage was very cozy, even in winter due to the fireplace and had everything you need. Timothy is very caring and drove me to the supermarket and always asked if I needed anything. Don't hesitant to visit the beautiful area of West Cork on Timothy's farm! Thank you for the great time there.

On 1 Nov '25 I arrived here for a five week stay with Carlo and Selene, during which the main focus was building the communal kitchen adjacent to the co-working studio. This involved a lot of sanding and painting wood, and eventually constructing the drawers and fitting those neatly into the steel frame of the kitchen designed by Carlo, who helped in this co-production by providing all materials needed, which involved many rides to the local timber trade and solving the issues we encountered. It's been quite some work, but working outside in the sun was enjoyable, and seeing the final result was very rewarding. I can imagine the kitchen being the beating heart of a vibrant cultural centre. This was not quite the case when I was there, perhaps due to the period, as well as the fact that Carlo also has a demanding job which takes up most of his time. The co-work space and good wifi made it very easy to do some remote working. Another factor which made it very pleasant was the fact that every morning when opening the door, on most of the days there was a blue sky inviting to start the day with a morning coffee out on the terrace. Coming from the northern part of Europe I know life is not always like that. Therefore I would have expected to meet more fellow co-workers and travelers than actually was the case, although it was nice interacting with those who were there. In short, this is a hidden gem in the south of Sicily, with a spectacular cave and spacious garden, full of potential for all kinds of use. Important to mention, there are bikes available for use which take you to your gelato on the seaside in minutes. Thank you Carlo and Selene for the meals and talks and making it a wonderful stay. Hope to see you again. Cheers, Bas

I spent two unforgettable weeks volunteering in Tanzania, from September 22nd to October 8th, 2025. It was an experience that gave me far more than I could ever give in return. Weza and his family are truly incredible people who did everything they could to make me and the other volunteers feel like part of their family. Weza shared every aspect of his daily life with us, patiently explaining traditions and customs and allowing us to truly experience local everyday life. Mama D’s meals were delicious, and the two children are simply wonderful. At school, everyone has the chance to contribute according to their strengths. I spent a lot of time in the classroom with the children, supporting the teachers, and we also helped build a fence to make the playground safer. The affection you receive from the children and the entire staff is overwhelming and something you will never forget. Weza also helped me organize all the excursions I dreamed of: multi-day safaris, a trip to Materuni waterfalls, hot springs, and even my last three days in Zanzibar. Even after returning home, I am still in touch with them, which shows how strong and genuine the bond we built truly is. I truly hope to return one day to a place and to people who now feel like part of my heart and who deserve all the good in the world.

This was my first experience in Workaway and what a start. I even came back after my second Workaway job in Antalya and he accepted me with open arms. He became my friend and definitely my family. I highly recommend this opportunity. He is a well-educated and well-mannered person. He is a great cook. He doesn't expect too much. And since he is a psychotherapist, he's a very good listener. We did everything in the garden together and we did a lot. If he's accepting volunteers do not hesitate to apply. Thank you Adil for everything, and we definitely will see each other again.😁
