  Hello everyone!
  My name is Yoshi, I started my project in the Beeka Valley around 2 years ago.
  Recently, our unique school operations and agriculture project were evaluated, and we received a “creative activism award” from a filmmaker & social activist group, the Cultures of Resistance Films. We invited the experts and had “trauma-responsive teaching” workshop together for a better understanding of kids. We are starting to implement a psychotherapy program thanks to this course by the Education for all coalition.
  We believe that every child deserves an education. Indeed, our new student with disability has just been welcomed. It's an opportunity for other kids to practice “inclusive education”. Our school is becoming a community hub for kids, since the economic crisis become worser in Lebanon and Lebanese parents can’t afford school expense then Lebanese & Syrian students studying together at the same desks. We are also planning to create a course for the parents of the kids, so they can restart school after early marriage and child labor. In addition we offer a school meals for kids from vulnerable families.
  
  As you mights know, Lebanon is living a big crisis, which is complexly entangled, with an economic, political, financial, social, fuel, water, electlicity, population condensed, over the capacity of infrastructure, and so on...
  
  The main goal of our project is, indeed, to provide help and assistance to the local community and Syrian refugees living in tents in situations of very critical poverty.
  We provide assistance mainly through two ways: Education and Agriculture:
  
  1.Our agriculture project focuses on providing seedlings of vegetables and flowers to the refugees families living in the camps or apartment. We help with making vegetable gardens and we distribute seedlings that will support people in vulnerable situations. Thanks to that they can start their own work and effort and with their creativity they make their home better in organic way. At the same time, it relieves them from the stressful life by touching the soils.
  
  2. More than half of Syrian children who are refugees have never been to school in Lebanon. We strongly believe that each child deserves an education. We launched our school project in parallel with our agricultural initiative. We believe that our school should create a therapeutic environment where children can begin
  to heal from their traumatic experiences. School may be the only consistent safe place for a child living in the uncertainty of a life in settlements.
  
  We received the help of lots of volunteers from all over the country. But due to the accomodation places, currently we host less than 4 volunteers.

  Intercambio cultural y oportunidades de aprendizaje

  It is a hard work for volunteers to manage classrooms and schools, but some of the volunteers satisfactorily go home with lots of experience and knowledge after working with us.
  Volunteers will surely learn about the community living in the refugees camp. Every time we visit families and distribute the seedlings, people welcome us with their biggest smile and we end up drinking a couple of coffees kindly prepared, as soon as we step inside their house, and that's amazing!
  Sharing stories, problems, experiences, wishes and dreams with the local people is something very meaningful. Then, we realize more about the current situation and start to think of solutions for a better future.
  For those interested in learning Arabic, our local teachers are ready for you!
  Also learning about the gardening techiques through our friend Khajak, who's holding a farm on the mountain. As well, sharing with him some knoweledge about meditation, yoga, breathing techiques etc.

  Ayuda

  Volunteers are an invaluable resource and are well received! But, given the criticality of the situation, we believe it is necessary to exchange information what you want to do and what we want to ask you to do, to better prepare the potential volunteer for what they should expect if they decide to come and help us in the Bekaa!
  
  We are looking for an open-minded, serious, optimistic, committed, and dedicated person who is willing to join the team.
  
  Our school has local teachers who run the 4 main classes, for a total of around 90 kids. We open 5 days a week, 4 hours a day, and teach Arabic, English, Math, and social skills. The class times are short to start, as the children have not been in a formal education setting for years, and long class times are strenuous on their attention spans.
  Volunteers can support the school with any kind of help, but especially:
  -preparing new activities such as art crafts, and outdoors activities;
  -supporting the local teachers;
  -introducing new subjects if they have any acknowledge about it (such as new languages course, Yoga, Meditation, Psychological support, Gardening, Sports etc..),
  -helping the foundations of the potential NGO is also very important. Anyone having any knowledge on management, or work with social networks, or simply taking care of donations would be great.
  
  Volunteers can support the agriculture with any kind of help as well, such as:
  -preparing soils in an organic way for our seedlings;
  -preparing seedlings to distribute them to the local community;
  -gardening together with refugees and local people;
  -creating garden space for them;
  -supporting the local organic strawberry farmer.
  
  We implement “trauma-responsive teaching” and “social-emotional learning” in our school for supporting our students and communities to get their resilience to deal with their trauma. We have a textbook of it. (it takes a few hours.) It relates to child protection and is important when support students from a refugee camps. So, we want to ask you to read our textbooks before joining us.

  -our local Arabic teacher will be happy to teach Arabic to you and guide you at refugee camps to communicate with people as a translator if you want.

  Alojamiento

  We have a house with three bedrooms, shared kitchen, and two hammooks settled in the nice and cozy garden where we usually spent most of our free time at.
  We live in Anjar, which is close to the mountain where we do our gardening work and 20 min far from the school (which is in Bar Elias).
  You can use one of our bycicle to reach the school or the tok tok.
  
  We don't have home wifi in our volunteer house. But it's fine to connect wifi by using the data of the smartphone. It's not cost much (e.g. 1.5 GB is $5.5, 10GB is $10). we have internet access in this way. Feel free to use my hotspot at our house, if you want to. Thank you.
