🏡 Hi there! We are a family of three: Judith (mother), Oliver (father), and our almost 4-year-old daughter Rosa. We love to travel and spend around 10–12 weeks per year on trips. Our next travel destination is Thailand. During our trips, we look for a reliable house sitter to take care of our home and animals. For our upcoming trip, we will be away from December 30 to February 3, and it would be ideal if the house sitter could arrive a couple of days earlier and stay a few days longer to ensure a smooth handover.
We moved into our lovingly renovated farmhouse in Stroheim, Upper Austria, at the end of January 2025. We bought the house in July 2024 and have invested a lot of time and effort into restoring it. Currently, we are building a large apartment in the former hayloft, which we plan to move into in summer 2026. While not everything is completely finished, the house is comfortable and well-equipped, combining modern conveniences with the charm of an old building. It is heated mainly with underfloor heating and a wood stove (called “Tischherd”) that can also be used for cooking and baking.
We live here with our daughter Rosa, who has her own playroom with a climbing wall—truly a little paradise for children—our cat Nala, two rabbits (Susi and Emily), and currently seven chickens. Oliver is an electrician, and I am a landscape gardener. I also have a passion for sewing and all kinds of creative hobbies.
During the autumn holidays (October 27 to November 2), we will be at home, but construction work on the new apartment in the former hayloft will be in full swing. During this time, we are not looking for a regular house sitter, but possibly someone who can help us with small tasks on the construction site. The guest/workroom can be used during this period. I cook every day, so meals are provided, and if needed, I can also offer afternoon childcare.

As a house-sitter with us, you will have plenty of free time, since daily tasks like feeding, checking water, or ventilating the house are completed quickly. The house and surroundings offer a great base for exploring the region or for focused work from home. There is a fully equipped workspace, so you can easily work from your computer.
The area is quiet and close to nature – perfect for relaxing, especially if the Christmas season was busy or stressful. For those who want to go on excursions, there are many options: just a few minutes by car, you can reach the ski jumping hill in Hinzenbach, where larger events are regularly held and you can watch professional ski jumpers. A small ski lift nearby is occasionally open. Other interesting sites include the Schaunburg castle ruins, the Mayhoferberg lookout tower, the vineyard in Hartkirchen, or the Schlögener Schlinge. With a car, day trips to larger ski areas like Hinterstoder or to Hallstatt and Gmunden are also possible.
We, Judith and Oliver, are happy to help you find personalized excursion ideas, so everyone can make the most of their time here according to their interests.

🛠️ House & Animals in Winter:
Cat Nala: daily feeding, check water, occasional cuddles. Nala is very independent but likes having someone around. If you only come once a day to feed her, she might be out and could feel a bit lonely.
Chickens: daily feeding and water check (may freeze; a water heater can be used).
Rabbits (Emily & Susi): daily feeding with hay, pellets, fresh greens; water check.
Ventilation: briefly ventilate all rooms once a day (approx. 10 minutes).
Snow & Ice: spreading salt (approx. 5 minutes), shoveling snow if necessary (approx. 15 minutes, depending on weather).
Weekly tasks: partial cleaning of stables, watering overwintered plants (approx. 1–2 hours).
Autumn holidays (Oct 27 – Nov 2):
We are at home, but the new attic apartment is under construction. Handy, helpful hands may be needed on the site.
The guest/workroom can be used; kitchen, bathroom, and living room are shared.
Daily meals are provided by me (Judith), and childcare can be offered in the afternoons if needed.

German is my native language, and I speak it fluently. I understand English fairly well – not perfectly, but at an acceptable level. I’m a bit shy when it comes to speaking. My husband is much more confident and speaks English well. We once learned a little French for a trip to Madagascar and to Martinique, but our vocabulary is very limited. We’d love to refresh it at some point. In general, I’m not too worried about language barriers – tools like Google Translate or ChatGPT are very helpful. During your stay, we’ll probably only be at home for a short overlapping time. Our neighbors, like many in rural areas, don’t speak much English or any other languages. However, some of our friends who might stop by do speak good English.
Alojamiento
Accommodation: A private guest room is available, with a pull-out bed that can be extended to 1.60 m wide. Optionally, during our winter vacation in January, our daughter’s bedroom can also be used; it has a 1.40 m wide bed. A crib can be provided if needed.
Kitchen & Household: The kitchen is fully equipped: wood-fired stove with oven, combo steam oven, regular oven, microwave, SodaStream, coffee machine, kettle, Thermomix-like device (Monsieur Cousine), waffle iron, toaster, and more.
Self-catering: Guests prepare their own meals but are welcome to use our stored supplies (preserved vegetables, fruits, basic staples like rice and pasta).
Fresh supplies: A baker comes twice a week directly to our doorstep (Monday & Friday) – he rings the bell. Cash only; no card payments.
Winter favorite: Especially in winter, the wood stove can be used for cooking and baking, e.g., apple strudel or vegetable soup.
Mobility: A bicycle is available but is only moderately suitable in winter, as the terrain is quite challenging.

To make your stay with us enjoyable, here are a few tips regarding transport and the surrounding area:
Public transport in Stroheim is limited. On weekends, no buses run, and during school holidays, buses start running very late. If you rely on public transport, you will be quite inflexible and will have difficulty getting around. We therefore strongly recommend having a car. Alternatively, you could come as a pair or as a family, which makes it easier to have social contact and enjoy your stay. Coming alone without a car can be particularly lonely in winter. Bicycles are available, but in winter they are only limitedly usable due to snow, ice, and the hilly terrain – a car is much more practical.
Mobile reception in Stroheim is limited. Only 5G with the A1 provider is stable. For all other options, WiFi calling works reliably. Please note that if you are further away from the house, you may have almost no reception.
If you want to go out in the evenings on weekends, you will need to rely on taxis or stay sober to get home safely. If you are interested in nightlife tips, Oliver often works as a waiter on weekends and knows the best spots for local events and parties.
With this information, you can plan your stay comfortably, safely, and flexibly, whether for work, relaxation, or exploring the area.

Internet in Stroheim is generally good, but it's not always fully reliable. We mostly make phone calls via Wi-Fi calling, as mobile reception is poor here unless you're using the provider A1. 5G works well, though. Our internet connection usually works well – currently we have around 60 Mbps download and 11 Mbps upload speeds. However, the quality can vary from day to day. Sometimes we only get 30 Mbps download or 5 Mbps upload. Streaming HD or even UHD videos (like on Amazon Prime) works without any issues. Since I work in the advertising industry, I can also say it's possible to work here with two computer monitors and manage large files. The only thing to keep in mind: if you frequently need to upload large amounts of data, it may occasionally take longer than expected. Overall, we have good Wi-Fi coverage in the house and most of the garden. Just be aware that moving between rooms may cause the Wi-Fi signal to switch between boosters.

Espacio para aparcar autocaravanas
We have enough space to park a motorhome or camper, just like we can easily accommodate up to three cars. Electricity and water are available in the garden, which may be useful for campers. However, we do not have facilities for emptying chemical toilets or wastewater tanks. We've seen such setups at campsites, but we don’t have anything like that here and don’t know how it works either. If you're self-sufficient and can manage this on your own, you're very welcome here. One important note: we are entrusting our home to a reliable house sitter, and we kindly ask that you do not rent out the house or any part of the property to anyone else during your stay. Even if you choose to sleep in your camper, we want to make it clear that the house and property are exclusively for your personal use. Thank you for your understanding.

ENGLISH:
Susi & Emily are two female rabbits living safely in a section of our old stable.
🟢 Daily: Fresh water, hay, pellets, and green food like grass, dandelion, or branches (e.g. hazel or fruit trees). Greens can be picked in the garden.
🔁 Weekly: Clean the dirtiest corners of their area (not everything – just where they usually go to the toilet).
❗ Note: Lighting is automatic. They especially enjoy fresh greens on hot days when they can't be outside.Nala
ENGLISH:
Nala is our cuddly but independent cat. She enjoys company but also likes to roam around.
🟢 Daily: Feed her in the morning and evening. If possible, give her some cuddles – she usually asks for it herself.
❗ Note: She doesn’t like it when no one is around for a long time or when someone only comes by to feed her. She needs a bit of human presence to feel at home.
🔁 Extra info: She comes and goes freely. Whether she sleeps inside or outside at night doesn’t matter. She only uses the litter box if needed.Chickens
ENGLISH:
Our chickens don’t have names – except for Kümmerling, the smallest one.
They are Jersey Giants, a slow-growing, large breed. We currently have nine young chickens: five black, three grey, and one white.
They live in a coop with an automatic door.
🟢 Daily: Check their food and water. If you like, you can give them treats like soaked oats.
🌙 Important: In the evening, check that all chickens are inside, as some may not make it in time. The door closes automatically, but a quick check is needed.
🔁 Weekly: Clean the coop only if it’s visibly dirty.
