Descripción

We live at Quebec city; a nice and old city with a lot of historic sites and nice views on st-lawrence river. Our home is at 15 minutes of the city center and we are also very close to parks and forest sites. Public transport, grocery stores, cinemas and restaurants available on foot. We are a little family in slow life mode. I have 2 daughters aged of 9 and 12. We do homeschooling since 5 years and we love it.

In exchange, the traveller could learn french and learn about a new kind of life rythm (homeschooling life). The traveller would have the opportunity to help the other teachers in forest school 3 days a week with kids (tuesday-wenesday-thursday), or just participate to the activities with them. Also, there are opportunities to meet people for the homeschooling community and meet some new friend during weekends and other days during the week (monday-friday).

If the person is interessed about history, Quebec city is the best to learn. Museums, architecture, ancestral knowledge of the first nations, etc.

We are looking for someone who would like to share moments for us to practice our english. I'm looking for someone who loves kids and would like to share activities with us. I don't really need a real teacher as checked on the list above. I would be very happy to welcome someone who is sociable, helpful, resourceful and respectful because we share a small space during the time we are together. The person will also be welcome to help the others teachers in the forest school 3 days a week with a group of 20 kids from homeschooling.

It's important to tell you that I raise my children in co-parenting. The dad live at 5 minutes from my home. We have a squeezed schedule and it will be important to give you some more informations about this before the beginning of the project. I have a really good relationship with the dad and it could be an option to share moments with him and girls during his daycare weekends. He is open to welcome someone at his home too.

I live in a little apartment (4 1/2) and I have a private room to offer. We share the other spaces: kitchen, bathroom and living room. Wifi, dryer. I don't have television (only computer). I cook vegetarian meal but also like cooking fish or chicken. I'm open to discover and share others types of meal.

It's all about learning and sharing moments with people from another country or region. It's very important for me to welcome someone who love kids and who want to have interactions with them. It's actually a school project to motivate them in their english learning and give them the taste to travel.

Volunteered at Veronique's place is one of the most inspiring journey I have ever been, it all started with a few calls even before the meet up, including arranging my clearance to the forest school the girls are attending, came out with a well designed schedule to manage both of our expectation, checking & preparing me for the very cold winter in … read more QC with almost head to toe winter attire supply, Veronique also gotten me the more than perfect winter shoes for free from her community, right on the spot on the very day where snow started (realized this volunteer is a hack of learning how to dress enough for a very winter place). On the day I arrived, Veronique picked me up and the girls welcomed me with their heart-shaped hand crafted card (of course I brought them home with me and it's in my bedroom right now) and a list of cultural-must-do things in QC (that they checked out all of them with me across the one month stay). On the 2nd day I arrived, Veronique brought me to explore & introduced me the famous old town of QC & even the super cool beautiful cabin in the forest Martin stays. Honestly, what else can I ask for a more perfect & full of love start of a volunteer.

The "work" were basically all the moments we spent together with the girls to help them be more comfortable in speaking english, which I truly enjoyed. We played different games at home both the homeschooling time and free time, the girls taught me some french while we practiced english vocab, learn english with books, songs and cartoon, went to the forest school with them where I get to share mandarin with other kids too, watched some movies together, visited musuems and library together, a lot of great food time together, shared how my country looks like and glad to introduce my national dish, sightseeing & outdoor time together, I was also thrilled that the girls and Veronique had strong interest in learning mandarin & we had fun learning-teaching together. Adhocly, I helped with very light and common sense house task. Aside fun time together, I was also given a lot of me time and trust to stay at home on my own while they are out of home having their own activities, I highly appreciate that.

The girls are very lovely kids and pretty much book-addict, which was actually very inspiring & I get to learn the trick from Veronique on how to cultivate this good habits in my future kids. Veronique is a highly inspiring and generous woman, I learnt so much from her and am so grateful for the opportunity & everything else she had share with me. I'm moved by so many things: the way she love and treated both of her girls who have very different personalities equally, different approaches however there's no bias but greater love. The way she fight for her own life to live the fullest, embrace challenges with wisdom and constantly seeking for changes that bring growth. The way she gave her best in everything she does and the strong determination in her blood, from a traveller to a partner to a mother and to a body/fitness coach. I will forever remember the nights we had great deep talk together ended with hugging each other, I knew I gained myself a friend. It was all unforgettable experiences, not forgetting the maple syrup here that I love it so much & huge thanks to Sebastian helped me with kineosiology treatment as I hurt my spine. Again, thank you for all the love and I know I will see you in Malaysia one day! :))
