  I came to Kenya in 1990 following a request from parents in Kenya to set up a Waldorf school here. I stayed because of the 7 acres of land that we bought and developed near the school. Located on the southern edge of the Nairobi National Park, we hear the lions growl at night, and during the day we see zebras, giraffes and antelopes. The magic still surrounds us today. I spent the years 2001 to 2020 in Germany. Now my Kenyan adopted daughter, my grandchild and I returned to our farm to kiss it awake from their slumber. Who would like to help us?
  Four rental units finance the development of a permaculture farm on barren soil. Our team of 12 includes management, craftsmen and farmers. There is a lot to do in the farm and around the buildings. More details on request. Someone with permaculture skills and experience is warmly welcome to join our team as a supervisor for part of the day. Food, lodging, a warm community and African wildlife around the corner, including sunset over the Ngong Hills are our offer.
  
  Nach Kenia kam ich 1990 einer Bitte von Eltern folgend hier eine Waldorfschule aufzubauen. Geblieben bin ich wegen des 7 acres großen Landes, das wir nahe der Schule kauften und entwickelten, die farm. Am Südrand des Nairobi National Parks gelegen, hören wir nachts die Löwen grummeln, tags sichten wir Zebras, Giraffen, Antilopen. Der einst paradiesische Zauber umgibt uns heute noch. Von 2001 bis 2020 lebte ich in Deutschland. Jetzt kehrte ich mit meiner kenianischen Adoptivtochter und Enkeltochter auf unsere Farm zurück um sie aus dem Dornröschenschlaf wachzuküssen. Wer möchte uns dabei helfen?
  Vier Mieteinheiten finanzieren den Aufbau einer Permakulturfarm auf kargem Boden. Unser 12 köpfiges Team umfaßt Managment, Handwerker und Farmer. Es gibt in der Farm und um die Gebäude herum viel zu tun. Näheres gerne auf Nachfrage. Jemand vom Fach mit Permakultur Erfahrung und Interesse ist herzlichst willkommen als Supervisor unser Team halbtags zu begleiten. Kost, Logi, eine herzliche Gemeinschaft und afrikanisches Wildleben um die Ecke, inklusive Sonnernuntergang über den Ngong Hills sind unser Angebot.

  You are not only part of our house- and farm community but also of a lively, neighborhood from all walks of life and cultural origins. The people here are known for their openness and hospitality. Invitations to families in the country are part of it. The African Rift Valley is around the corner, the beautiful coast 550 km away is easy to reach by train.

  A practitioner with carpentry and craft skills or just a DIY enthusiasm would be helpful, but all skills are welcome, including marketing or graphic design. Since the range of our projects is very large, please contact me if you are interested.
  
  Our biggest challenge is water! The rain has finally come, but our small permaculture farm is now looking for a full-time Kenyan farmer to take over the supervision and responsibility. So our permaculture projects are on hold, but the gardens need attention.
  
  We are currently renovating a rental apartment. For this we need good ideas and helping hands. Ideas to promote our place and make it happen would be cool.

  Projects that would be taken up again once a farmer is found are:
  • Creation of small, healthy ecological environments by using waste water and applying different methods of water-saving irrigation in the vegetable garden and in the nursery.
  • Expansion of our compost production, bringing in fresh kitchen waste, animal manure and various mulch materials, in particular wood chips to improve the soil and build up topsoil.
  • Expanding our nursery and planting more hedges, shrubs and trees for sun and wind protection and as a source of future mulch and compost material.
  With this we can grow fodder for our donkeys and sheep to save on expensive fodder and increase our livestock.
  • In a next phase we can collect rainwater from roofs, store it in tanks and set up irrigation systems.
  In general we have money, manpower and also educated people here, but someone is needed to help with ideas, design and professional standards.

  Projekte, die wieder aufgegriffen würden, sobald ein Farmer gefunden ist, sind:
  • Schaffung kleiner, gesunder ökologischer Lebensräume durch Nutzung von Abwasser und Anwendung verschiedener Methoden der wassersparenden Bewässerung im Gemüsegarten und in der Gärtnerei.
  • Ausbau unserer Kompostproduktion durch Einbringung von frischen Küchenabfällen, Tierdung und diversen Mulchmaterialien, insbesondere Hackschnitzel zur Bodenverbesserung und zum Aufbau von Oberboden.
  • Erweiterung unserer Gärtnerei und Anpflanzung von mehr Hecken, Sträuchern und Bäumen als Sonnen- und Windschutz und als Quelle für zukünftiges Mulch- und Kompostmaterial.
  Damit können wir Futter für unsere Esel und Schafe anbauen, um teures Futter zu sparen und unseren Viehbestand zu vergrößern.
  • In einer nächsten Phase können wir Regenwasser von Dächern sammeln, in Tanks speichern und Bewässerungssysteme einrichten.
  Im Allgemeinen haben wir hier Geld, Arbeitskräfte und auch gebildete Leute, aber es wird jemand gebraucht, der mit Ideen, Design und professionellen Standards hilft.

  Man kann mit einem Taxi verschiedene Sehenswürdigkeiten besuchen, wie z.B. die Elefantenaufzucht von Daphne Shedrick oder das Giraffe Center. Öffentliche Verkehrsmittel wie Sammeltaxis zu nehmen ist etwas beschwerlicher aber möglich. Ein Motorradtaxi bringt Dich für die täglichen Einkäufe in die nahe wachsende Vorstadt Ongata Rongai, die auch Einblick in das lokale Leben gibt. Das Zentrum Nairobis ist 25 km entfernt, auf der anderen Seite des Nationalparks. In Fußnähe liegt die Massai Lodge mit einem schönen Pool oder das beliebte Kunsthandwerkszentrum Kitengela Glass. Das Nachtleben spielt sich überwiegend in Malls und Restaurants ab, weniger auf den Straßen, da der Alltag durch den gleichbleibenden Tag-Nachtrhythmus bestimmt wird. Ab 19 Uhr ist es hier dunkel. Die Jahreszeiten wechseln zwischen Regen – und Trockenzeit, wobei letztere in den Sommermonaten etwas kühler und auch bewölkt sein kann, die Trockenzeit von Dezember bis April hingegen sonnig und auch heiß sein kann. Durch die Höhenlage Nairobis von 1600 sind die Nächte immer angenehm kühl, es ist nie drückend oder schwül.
  
  You can visit various sights by taxi, such as Daphne Shedrick's elephant rearing or the Giraffe Center. Taking public transport such as “matatus” is a bit stranious but possible. A motorcycle taxi takes you to the nearby growing suburb of Ongata Rongai for your daily shopping, which also gives you an insight into local life. The center of Nairobi is 25 km away, on the other side of the National Park. The Massai Lodge with a beautiful pool or the popular handicraft center Kitengela Glass are within walking distance. The nightlife takes place mainly in malls and restaurants, less on the streets, as everyday life is determined by the constant day-night rhythm. From 7 p.m. it is dark here. The seasons alternate between rainy and dry seasons, with the latter being a bit cooler and cloudy in the summer months, while the dry season from December to April can be sunny and hot. Due to Nairobi's altitude of 1600, the nights are always pleasantly cool, it is never oppressive or humid.
