We live in an old house in the country. The house is big, The village small. There are no shops. or anything. The river Saale is about 5 minutes away and there is a lake. The next city is Bernburg. We are two academics, a linguist and a lawyer, aged 54 and 48. We smoke, we drink, we eat meat. Pretty normal people concerning the rest. We have a dog and some chicken. The house was buildt in 1707, basically in the center of the village and is surrounded by roughly an acre of land. And here is the point: We manage to catch up, but barely. New projects stay behind. Many smaller and minor tasks cry for a helping hand. The wood shed wants to be cleared and cleaned, the weed wants to be picked, the tomatos planted and harvested. There are over twenty apple trees that need love and affection. And so on. Every day comes up with a new task, and yesterdays tasks are still there...
So, if you are willing to do some work that is probaly not too demanding, neither mentally or physically, respect nature and animals, respect humans and humanistic ideals, if you are happy with the solitude and if you can imagine to spend your free time in the garden under a tree reading a book, writing a novel, create poems or paint or just think about the world while watching the chicken, take a swim if the weather allows for it or sit by the fireplace with a glass of Port pondering.... this could be a place for you. The Lady of the house drives to Magdeburg and Halle on a regular basis and is sure happy to give a ride, in case you want some urban vibes from time to time. We can offer a room with a double bed and some privacy and also some "family time" where wanted (or needed). We cook our food every day and shall have meals together, unless you want to be on your own. We try to keep it "organic", free range or game. We can cater for a vegetarian diet but I do see trouble ahead with a strict vegan food plan. Simply not the capacities for that.
In return we ask what we ask of all our guests, that you participate in keeping things running. Help us cope with the daily madness: We would be happy if you could do the things that steal us time to realize other ideas.
We do not care about your age (well, you should be 18 obviously), religion, race, sex, gender or sexual orientation. We both speak English rather fluently, a little bit of Spanish and if all else fails we can try Latin or Greek :). Or we have a glass together and speak the universal language. And of course we speak German, more or less through the whole day, unless circumstances demand different...

Of course we can drive to places of interest in the vicinity and do the stuff tourists would do.
Then you'd experience the Germany you get shown.
The cutural exchange that everybody expects to happen ("To your left you see an old church").
We do not think that we represent the typical German stereotype, which I understand to be "married, small house, two children, save job, BBQ at the weekends", although we are married, have a house, an adult daughter, a job and a BBQ.
When travelling you meet people, not stereotypes. Cultures not "a culture".
Meet us then. And our friends. If you want.Ayuda
It is our first time that we try "workaway". Our daughter did Workaway last year, that’s how we came across the idea.
We imagine having a guest that we treat as a guest and who behaves like a guest, i. e. helps out where needed and enjoys the stay.
We do not seek a butler or a cheap housekeeper.
I guess for a start you should plan to stay a week?
Tasks that we have in mind are clearing and cleaning a shed, doing garden work, cater for the chicken, help in the house and what comes up that cannot be done without a second pair of hands, like moving a cupboard or so. If you should develop a great interest in cleaning windows I am pretty sure we find some dirty ones to make you happy…
MOST IMPORTANT: The dog and the chicken are already part of our family... You buy us, you get them. You must not be afraid of the animals in and around the house. And the animals shouldn’t have to be afraid of you.
There are e.g. hedgehogs in the garden and snakes and spiders. And all kind of little souls. But we’re not Australia. None of those will kill you. So… don’t kill then.Idiomas hablados
Inglés: Fluido
Español: PrincipianteAlojamiento
Concerning accomodation: There is a room for you, large enough to swing a cat or two... ( BYOC, but don’t. The dog wouldn’t appreciate).
Food I have already mentioned, v.s.
We usually eat warm in the evening due to work, have a light lunch around 2.
Breakfast after getting up. Not too early. The Lady usually skips breakfast.Algo más...
The nearest city is Bernburg. Magdeburg and Halle are also close. There is a bus to Bernburg. For the rest you'd need a ride.
