We are a family of 2 persons, me and my son. We have animals that include dogs, cats, and miniature horses, besides chicken. We own an 8 .000 sq m orchard, near Vila Franca do Campo in a small parish called Ribeira das Tainhas.
We have a very nice ocean and a beautiful view over Vila Franca do Campo. Also a nice calm little beach two steps away.
We are slowly implementing a permacultural regenerative system in our garden. We are open to having natural building skilled people here for experiences and workshops.
Our daily life moves around the garden tasks, managing our guest house, and taking care of our pets. Since we are still implementing structural work, the tasks are more related to that process.
We kindly ask you to read carefully the following text before applying to our place.
House Rules
We share spaces and the house for now. So we have some basic rules to attend
Managing resources most efficiently it's very important for us. We require that our volunteers be very focused and self-driven humans who are already self-trained in resilient behavior. So we need you to understand the basic rules of rubbish separation and have also knowledge about the rational consumption of energy and water. Be able to prepare meals for yourself when needed or asked.
We expect you to work diligently 5 hours a day, 5 days a week. The necessary help in preparing meals is not included in the working hours unless your volunteer job is cooking.
Kitchen and food
You can choose to prepare your meals with the given ingredients. We use what mainly comes from our garden and seasonal ingredients.
If we have to buy, we use local produce as much as we can
We have preferably a plant-based diet. Consuming fish or meat with ethical, sustainable origin. Dairy products are also consumed rationally.
It is expected for you to clean your dishware according to house rules.
Water and energy must be used in a very efficient way, so when cleaning dishware, pots, and pans we avoid permanent running water in the sink. We scrub and only after we rinse.
Hot water is only needed for greasy stuff.
We also ask to not change our organization of things because everything is organized to be functional and efficient according to the tasks.
We also use the dishwasher in an efficient and organized way.
Accommodation and clothes Management
You will be given a room that we expect to be vacuumed and cleaned with water and soap, once a week.
Before leaving you should clean your room more deeply.
Bedding should be changed once or every two weeks
We only allow full loads of laundry according to our sustainability schedule for clean energy consumption.
Showers are 5 minutes long.
Tasks and work
We expect our volunteers:
To work diligently for 5 hours
Avoid chatting too much because this slows down the rhythm and focus on accomplishing the tasks
Ask for an explanation or demonstration if you don't understand what is asked
Understand that sometimes repetitive tasks are needed
Sometimes we have heavy tasks like digging or carrying heavy loads
Understand that insects, worms, and animals are part of our daily life.
Know that tools used during the tasks need to be cleaned and stored after finishing the tasks
