Our next destination:
Romania - from Oct 2025 until Oct 2025 View allDescription
We have had the privilege of working for over 30 years working as teachers in International schools in Kenya, Malaysia, Qatar, China, Thailand, and the UK. Phil has been both a Geography Teacher and University Counsellor and I (Kate) have worked as a Primary School Teacher as well as a Primary Librarian and Technology Integrator. Throughout our careers, what has always motivated us most is building connections—whether with students, colleagues, or communities—and embracing the diversity of different cultures.
We are now embarking on a ‘late-in-life gap year’ in order to slow down, explore, and reconnect with the world. We are hoping that by volunteering we will get to experience the everyday life, values, and traditions of different communities.
We are both the happiest when we are outdoors, staying active, and working with others. We enjoy paddle boarding, playing tennis, and keeping fit, and love the sense of connection and purpose that comes from being part of a team or helping with a hands-on project.Interests

More details about your skills
With three decades of experience working as International Teachers, we bring strong communication, organisational and people skills to any environment. Over the years, we have taught a wide range of age groups and subjects, supported students with diverse needs, and led teams—so we are comfortable with taking initiative, problem-solving and adapting to new situations quickly.
Beyond the classroom, we are both practical, reliable, and we enjoy hands-on work. We are more than happy to help with general maintenance, gardening, child care, language practice (especially English), and supporting community or education-based projects. We have both been in leadership positions and have often mentored and trained others. We are very comfortable working independently or as part of a team.
We also enjoy staying active and working outdoors—we are physically fit, love being outside, and have a can-do attitude when it comes to trying something new. We are good listeners, quick learners, and take pride in doing a job well.Age
