  • Description

I am a very fit and energetic individual with experience in gardening, building and land care. In my career as a Physical Education, Outdoor Education and Science teacher, I have found a balance that attends to my passions of an outdoor lifestyle and a connection with nature combined with health and fitness. Currently my focus has been on tropical gardening, trekking and surfing because where I live affords these opportunities but in the past I have also sailed, snorkelled, birdwatched and played competitive sport.
At different times, I have worked with cattle, horses, sheep, fish farm and sugar cane farms, and orchards. I have volunteered in land care, dune restoration and turtle watch programs. I have built and renovated a number of houses and cottages and been involved in landscaping projects. My primary work was as a teacher and these projects have always been as holiday or volunteer activities. I have initiative, energy and common sense and I am able to learn tasks quickly, and can work independently once shown the task.
For the majority of 2018 I volunteered with a youth organization in Australia, the Kokoda Challenge Youth Program where I trained a group of 16 to walk the 96klm Kokoda Track in Papua New Guinea and taught them about the second world war battle between Australia and Japan as part of remembrance of the sacrifice of others. The group also completed community service in disabled surfing, reforestation and land care. The whole focus of the organization was to develop more responsible and grateful youth. Since my retirement in 2021 I have volunteered weekly in two organizations one specializing in providing sailing opportunities for the disabled and the other horse riding for the disabled. My new passion is training horses using natural horsemanship which I learnt in Costa Rica in 2019 and have begun to use in Australia and more recently for a month in Ecuador.
I have travelled extensively during the past twenty years in Europe and South America and have lived in England, Oman and Colombia. Beyond all, my passion is nature and the need to care for it so reforestation and habitat regeneration are tasks I really enjoy. Building projects and farm work are things I have experience with and are a great diversion from teaching, so these too I seek to do whenever possible. I am currently travelling in South America for six months and am seeking to volunteer in projects that engage my skills and interest.
