  • Description

Hi! I'm Jodie, a 26 year old born in Glasgow, Scotland but raised in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Callum is 24 years old and from Kent, England. We met at university in 2021 where we both studied History (alongside Politics in my case), and lived together in London whilst I finished my studies. We got married in August 2024 and three days later made the spontaneous decision to set off travelling when our apartment lease finished in September. So far we have travelled through 5 countries - Japan, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Thailand. We arrived in Malaysia in February and are hoping to undertake some volunteering during our time here now that we're slightly more 'seasoned travellers'

More details about my language interests
Callum and I both studied languages at school (Spanish and French respectively), but due to lack of experience and practice we've lost a lot of that knowledge. After travelling for 5 months, we feel privileged to have English as our first language but would both relish the chance to learn a second, especially the language of a host that has so generously welcomed us into their home.

  • More details about your skills

Callum and I are both young professionals with diverse employment histories, Callum holds a Bachelor's Degree in History and I hold one in Politics and History. Callum's most recent work was in the facilities management sector, helping to manage multiple business properties across London. This involved a range of skills including interpersonal, administrative, organisational and problem solving. On the practical side of things, he also has experience with helping family and neighbours with minor construction projects.

The majority of my work experience has been in the hospitality and service sectors, though I have also worked in administration, social media, commercial cleaning and office management roles. My most recent role was at my university's student union, helping to coordinate the activities of our 90+ student societies. My diverse experience has led to strong communication and interpersonal skills, alongside people management skills and a great knack for problem solving.

We both grew up with multiple younger siblings so are well experienced in babysitting and love being around kids. Similarly, we've both kept pets throughout our lives and I especially love dogs.

We are both more than happy to chip in with whatever needs doing - we'll hopefully learn some more skills along the way!

  • What else ...

We are both huge history nerds! We've found while travelling that our favourite places have been the places that have given us the best chance to learn about the history and culture of that country and people. We're both very tidy and relaxed people that are happy to take things at face value and crack on with the task at hand. We both enjoy rock music (think The Beatles not Slipknot), mostly pre-2000 and summed up as 'Dad rock' by our friends, but we can groove along to just about anything!
