Description
Hello! I'm Stephen. I grew up exploring nature and getting to know the land and wildlife in a beautiful mountain town in Montana, USA. While young I played music - starting with the violin and moving on to the guitar as I got older. In my teens I began running, hiking, snowboarding and otherwise exploring my athletic side. As well, I am introspective and intellectual by nature (but you may not guess it when we first meet - I can be quite social!).
These themes started early in my life and have continued to shape how I live today. I have spent my life exploring how I can align my daily life with these passions. Along my journey I have worked as a wildland firefighter for the US Forest service, a wilderness guide and counselor in both wilderness and residential treatment programs. I have received a B.A. in Psychology and an M.S. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology.
Now I am spending time traveling, exploring culture, tradition, and the outdoors across Asia, and tuning back in to my passions while on a leave of absence from a PhD program with the University of Arizona. During this time, I've been working on songwriting and recording as well as writing poetry and fiction (I've also recently learned to surf!). It is my hope to continue to continue to explore these things I find meaningful, and, hopefully, in a way that aligns with some of your life projects as well!

I have a broad and flexible skill set, ranging from wilderness navigation, basic mechanics, and carpentry to therapeutic communication and data management (I can operate power tools, chainsaws, computers..). I’m a native English speaker, speak elementary Spanish, and have just begun learning Japanese (and would love to keep improving!).
I have extensive experience working in challenging environments and under pressure. I am self-motivated, detail-oriented, and I enjoy working independently and as part of a team.
