Hi! My name is Katie Mlinek and I currently live in New York City. I grew up with my five younger sisters in Baltimore, Maryland (yes, 6 girls!). I grew up reading, writing, and playing extensive imagination games with my sisters, all of us running around in fairy costumes while my dad tried to watch football. I soon fell in love with telling stories through film, and after years of education/training, I now work freelance in the film industry as a cinematographer. Between having a large and beautifully chaotic family, and working in a large and often chaotic industry, I have learned how to work diligently in many environments and collaborate with others as a team. The job has taken me all over America and enabled me to meet some of the most amazing people who constantly inspire me. Now I am hoping to find the joys of work, travel, and meeting new people throughout the world!

My first volunteer job ever was at the age of 14 at the National Aquarium in Baltimore, Maryland USA as an exhibit guide, teaching travelers from all over the world about the beauty of our oceans and aquatic life. I have done numerous service jobs in America, which includes barista experience and CPR certification, while completing a college level course in creative writing. For the past three years, I have worked professionally in the camera department on large movie sets, where the standard is 60-75hr work weeks. I am able to pick up tasks quickly, work under pressure, be very flexible to changes, and still crack jokes at the end of a long day! My skillset is strongest in video and photography. My exposure to the film industry has also led to my skills in consumer-level website development, content writing, graphic design, and social media engagement. I also enjoy cleaning, which is something I have been practicing my whole life with growing up with 5 sisters!

What else ...

Above all else, I am always interested in learning. I am particularly enthused by history, art, cooking/baking, marine life, astronomy, native flora and fauna, and the intersection of all of these things. In my free time I love long walks, bike rides, spending quality time with friends, reading, playing piano, and sometimes just having a cup of tea and looking out at the horizon. On rainier days, I enjoy puzzles, shuttle tatting, more reading (!), and catching up on good shows with my roommates and friends.
