  • Description

Hello! I’m Madeline (or ‘Mads’), I’m 20 years old and live in the small, medieval city of Winchester, England. In the next 12 months I am hoping to find a ‘home away from home’ in southern Spain to develop my understanding of the language, culture and lifestyle. I would really love the opportunity to live in a big town or city, with a small family in order to improve my Spanish and of course, help out with any English interests you might have!

I’m at the beginning of my Spanish journey – but so far, it’s been great! I started studying the language in high-school and have travelled to many diverse areas of Spain in the last couple of years: Girona, Gijón, Sevilla and Madrid - as well as joining some family this year, in Mallorca for some summer sun (not something we get a lot of here in England!)

Currently, I have a basic level of Spanish - enough to get by, but I would love to be conversational, and what better way to improve than to be completely immersed? I also plan on studying Spanish during my free time while in Spain.

Since finishing school two years ago, I’ve been working in the local restaurant/hotel/bar - The Wykeham Arms - which I love, but it has always been my dream to spend more time in Spain. Before that, I worked part-time at a nursery during sixth-form college, so I have experience with children of all ages - and if I ever get stuck, my mum is a primary school teacher, so she can always help me with ideas or advice.

I’m excited to meet you and start the next chapter of my Spanish adventure!

I'm only 20, but I am one of the managers at a successful business here in Winchester. On a daily basis I pride myself on being efficient, responsible and able to communicate with new customers, tourists and colleagues alike. I also have ample experience dealing with young children having worked in a busy nursery.

In my free time I enjoy drawing, hiking or walking our dog Salvo, the Border Collie. I also love singing and playing piano with my dad – whether it’s performing in pubs and street parties or just practising at home together. There is never a quiet second in my house!

Travelling and experiencing new things is a big interest of mine too. I love exploring little villages and wandering through streets, finding a small bar and having a drink while watching the passers-by. I am also very keen to try different foods and local specialities, and would love the opportunity to develop my cooking skills further.
