Hello, and welcome to our Workaway profile!
Who are we?
We’re Dorka and Kristóf, a Hungarian couple from Budapest. Kristóf is a freshly graduated doctor, and Dorka is currently in her fourth year of medical school. We met in a college dorm and have been together for one and a half years.
As for volunteering experience, we’re both scouts, so we’re familiar with living simply, making the most out of limited resources and helping wherever we can. We feel most at home in nature and love all kinds of outdoor activities—whether it’s running, hiking, cycling, or just exploring the wild.
We love to travel, and so far we’ve explored the Balkans together and backpacked across Indonesia.
Our story – Why do we travel?
We’ve decided to take a break from our studies and spend a semester backpacking across the Americas. Instead of being "typical tourists," we want to truly experience each place—by connecting with local communities, helping out wherever we can, and meeting people from all over the world.
Our skills – How can we help?
Dorka loves anything creative and hands-on: pottery, crochet, sewing (by hand and machine), and cross-stitching. She's also a great baker (see photo proof!) and enjoys cooking all sorts of delicious meals.
She has been in scouting for 13 years and has led scout troops, organized camps, and designed youth programs—so she's great with kids and team coordination. She's an active member of the Hungarian Medical Student Association, giving health education lectures and teaching parents about child resuscitation. She’s deeply caring, and her life goal is to help others.
Kristóf is training to be an orthopedic surgeon, so he’s naturally good with his hands and enjoys all kinds of DIY projects and fixing things (including building IKEA furniture without losing his mind 😄). He even built his own road bike from scratch.
He has also been a scout for 9 years and has been leading a group of 8 boys (who are now grown-ups). His biggest strength in scouting is creating stories, roleplays, and organizing games and activities. He’s taken part in multiple international scout jamborees. He’s really open-minded, creative, and loves to perform.
Kristóf’s main hobby, besides scouting, is playing the guitar. He currently plays in a funk-rock band called Platform9, where he writes some of the songs. But he also enjoys playing music around campfires, just for fun. In one word, he’s simply a natural music lover.
