Description
Hello! My name is Katie and I am a 25 year old living in Oregon in the United States. My biggest passions in life lie in creating stories, traveling to the best swimming spots, and connecting with other humans through laughter and learning. I graduated from university in 2023 with a B.S. degree in sociology and have gone on to work with people aged 7 to 95 in a variety of ways since.
Over the past year I have discovered an enormous love of being an educator and working directly with youth to engage in real learning that leads to self-empowerment, care for community, and compassion. I have experience teaching youth in outdoor settings as well as in non-traditional classroom settings.
Alongside teaching is a lifelong love of being a storyteller. I love to write poetry and nonfiction and find myself always drawn to the natural world as well as real life experiences of people. I have dreams of continuing writing and weaving this into my future travels. Writing, making art, and creating spaces where children can be creative is something I want to pursue more in my life and am hoping to find these experiences while traveling as well.
I enjoy being outdoors in many ways from hiking to mountain biking, swimming in rivers to learning to surf, birdwatching to taking pictures of flowers. I feel happiest when I am outdoors and get to experience a place by connecting to the natural life in its borders.
I have a life of experience raising animals and gardening because of growing up on seven acres of land where my family cared for chickens, horses, goats, sheep, pigs, dogs, cats and a plentiful garden where we harvested a variety of produce for our table. I absolutely love gardening and organic farming and am interested in learning more in these areas.
I am very outgoing, have high energy and a loud laugh, a kind heart, and am a hard worker. My skills include teaching, interpersonal communication, public speaking, writing, office tasks, organization of materials, conducting in depth interviews, qualitative research, as well as many skills in working with people like being quick on my feet, a problem solver, a good listener, and a compassionate member of the community.
In my life I have learned many things from getting to experience cultures different from my own. I have also learned a lot from the culture I grew up in. More than anything, I have learned there is still so much to learn and experience. The world is full of interesting places and people and I want to be a part of as much as I can.
