  • Description

Hello! My name is John and I'm an ENL/ESL (English as a New Language/English as a Second Language) teacher at an elementary school here in New York State. Ever since I had the opportunity to study abroad during my undergraduate studies, I fell in love with travel. Not simply just traveling for vacation's sake, but travelling to get to know different cultures. This is so important for me because it allows me to learn about different ways of looking at the world, which leads me to a personal sense of fulfillment. One of the best ways I've found to do this is by living, as much as I can, like a local. Whether is was my experiences living in The Netherlands, Sweden, or Poland, I found that living like a local simply helped me learn more and broadened my horizons. These experiences had such a profound affect on me that I pursued my career as a language teacher as a result.

I'm at my happiest when I'm travelling around and given the chance to interact with the local people in a genuine, authentic way. I enjoy sharing pieces of my culture as well as learning about the culture in which I'm visiting. I find that I'm a social person and want to meet and talk with others to not only allow for a fantastic learning experience, but to create lasting, life-long friendships.

Currently, I'm very interested and motivated in learning Spanish. Many of my students are Spanish speakers, and the more Spanish I learn, the better I will be able to communicate with them, but also I will be able to help them better learn English as a result.

Other info about me: I love the beach, reading, kayaking, helping others, working with children, cooking, trying new things, and biking, just to name a few!

Thank you for your time :) - John

More details about my language interests
As an ENL/ESL teacher, I specialize in teaching English to those learners that do not speak English fluently. In addition, I am VERY motivated to learn Spanish, so any opportunity that would allow me to learn, whether engaging with locals in the community, or taking part in community language classes or anything of that nature would be most welcome.

  • What else ...

I'm not really sure what else to add! I love travelling, eating good food and sharing laughs and experiences. When in another country, I try my best to follow the rules and customs of my host country. Not only because it is good manners, but because I need to respect the country and people. In addition, I'm a huge pet fan, especially cats, so furry friends are always welcome!

If you want any more information, don't hesitate! I'm an open book 🕮
