  • Description

Hi everybody! I'm Javier, from Spain. It's been a while since the last time I Workawayed, but here I am again. Next summer I'll go to the US for the first time. A very good friend of mine is getting married in Colorado and then I'll take the chance to make a little road trip, mainly in California.

After a little trip with friends from Las Vegas to Yosemite, I'll be on my own from 18 August to 9 September, when I'll have to be in San Francisco to take my flight back to Spain. So I'll have three weeks to discover California. I cannot wait to see how it goes.

I'm planning to travel around a bit. In my mind, I'm picturing following the mountains up north from Yosemite to somewhere around Mendocino and then going south along the coast to San Francisco. I'm mostly considering hitchhiking and public transport. Also, I'll bring my sleeping bag and a hammock to limit paying accommodation as much as possible.

In addition to the travel, I would like to have at least one workaway experience. I have tried Workaway several times in several places, including Scotland and Turkey. I've always had such a great experience, and I'm certain California will be the same.

So let's speak a bit about me.

After living all my life in cities, two years ago, I decided to move to La Vera, a beautiful rural area in southwest Spain. I work remotely as a freelance, combining my background in law and data analysis (I'll actually bring my laptop to the US in case I have some work to do). I live in a lovely house with two friends, a cat and a dog. I like to spend my free time hiking, birdwatching, preparing our vegetable garden and playing music, mainly guitar and piano, although I love to try new instruments and jam to see how it goes.

Moving to a rural area has been a life-changing experience. Every day there's something new to learn, something that could be useful to navigate the climate crisis we're facing. Climate change and sustainability are very deep concerns to me (indeed, taking this flight from Europe to the US is quite painful to me), and I devote a considerable chunk of my energies to trying to figure out how to address this and live up with everyday contradictions. Such interest has brought me to discover new areas and disciplines, such as environmental sciences and permaculture to environmental restoration and bioconstruction.

What makes me a suitable Workaway candidate?
Besides our desire to travel, meet new people and have fun, we know that Workaway also means (as the word says itself) work and dedicate a part of our time to the daily task of voluntary service. I consider myself a hard worker and I'm willing to help you guys in anything you need. Looking forward to meeting you.
