Hi! I’m Hannah, a recent textile design graduate. After finishing university I have been travelling and working off and on for two years, and now I’m ready to commit to full time travel!

During this time I participated in two month-long projects with Grampus Heritage which focussed on cultural sustainability, traditional skills and rural development in Cyprus and Greece. I have also worked as a cleaner, renovator and painter in a hostel in Denmark through WORKAWAY. I loved the experience of living and working abroad and being able to immerse myself in the different lifestyle and culture and want to do it again!

Currently I’m living and working in Edinburgh, Scotland as a waitress/bartender, which I love, but I’m ready to try something new. I have flights booked to New Zealand in March and a working holiday visa at the ready, so I can’t wait to get started!

With a Bachelors Degree in Textile Design, I have built up wealth of creative skills, including embroidery, sewing, weaving, digital drawing, screen printing, crocheting, knitting, fabric dyeing, drawing, painting, and woodwork. I also have a high level of IT software experience in Adobe, Google and Microsoft.

In May 2022 I spent a month living and working in a hostel in Bornholm, Denmark. In this role I did general cleaning, setting up bedrooms for guests, and painted a mural.

In June 2021, I completed a Grampus placement in Cyprus - ‘Putting Traditional Skills into Fashion for Cultural Sustainability’. On the placement I gained experience in mural painting, mosaics, ceramics, pottery, icon painting, felting, crocheting, and lace making. In March 2022 I went to Santorini for a similar project, where I did pottery and wood workshops, museum archiving and artefact preservation. These projects greatly helped improve my sense of initiative, ability to appreciate different cultures, and cooperate in a team.

Professionally, I have been working in customer services since 2015. My current job as front of house assistant at a restaurant in Edinburgh involves many responsibilities, however the main skills I have learned have been working effectively as part of a team, clear communication, and how to stay calm under pressure in an extremely busy environment.

My previous roles in customer service range from receptionist for the local council to visitor assistant for the National Galleries of Scotland. They have allowed me to develop excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to use my initiative, and how to be a strong member of a team.

During school, I completed both the bronze and silver duke of Edinburgh award schemes, and so have lots of experience in team building, walking long distances, wild camping, and map reading.
