  • Description

Hello! I'm a recent graduate, just finishing a Fine Art degree in Newcastle. I love being creative and working with my hands and with other people. I come from an artistic background in Cornwall so enjoy playing and exploring the outside world - especially coasts and beaches !

My most happiest moments are in the kitchen ! I really enjoy feeding others delicious things (especially homegrown or local), and like to get creative with the ingredients around me. A good meal together brings me purpose and connection with other people. I'm also eager to learn about traditions and processes surrounding food growing and making, and being involved is the best way to do that!

More details about my language interests
I understand Italian to a good level but struggle with speaking so would like to improve that skill to connect with my family culture on a deeper level. I enjoy learning languages and their different rhythms, so whenever I am I like to make an effort to speak the local language and dialect.

  • More details about your skills

I have just completed a Fine Art BA at Newcastle University where I organised and ran workshops for pasta making. These workshops looked at peoples relationship to food traditions and feelings of home. Here I learnt great skills in the building of community projects, particularly fundraising and curating. I set up a weekly soup kitchen that fed our students, raising money for our degree show at the end of the year. This project was run and organised by me but relied on the help of many other students cooking together to bring everyone a meal to share.

I also helped set up the community allotment at the university, prepping the space for planting and growing our own produce which we then used for fornightly meals with all our volunteers in the garden. Here is where I learnt some of the gardening skills that I have and my interest to continue growing my own food has continued past graduation.

I grew up in Cornwall, nurturing my love for the wild outdoors. I have enjoyed learning foraging skills here that can help sustain me year round, always to be accompanied by walking and swimming. I've also helped run a lot of children's' workshops here at home and at festivals across the UK to explore art and creative play, drawing, potion making, lantern building, and all sorts! I have lots of experience preparing and running these kinds of workshops for all ages using all kinds of different materials.

My love for cooking stems from my Italian mother, who has taught me so much about caring for others using food. Cooking for others is a key part to how I live and I have developed these skills as an adult, learning to cook for various different groups of people with all kinds of flavours and cuisines. I have been a vegan for three years now, and whilst it was difficult to limit my diet, I really enjoy being creative with simple, fresh ingredients.
