  • Description

What motivates me and brings me happiness is following my heart to where I need to be in life, which is currently leading me to the Ocean. Scuba diving, surfing, and snorkeling is my way of being connected to the Ocean. To experience different cultures and ways of living is always a calling for me!

In 2021, I went on my first solo adventure to Belize, to aid in a volunteer program to conserve the Belize Barrier Reef. I spent a week on a remote island, scuba diving every day, taking classes on sustainability for the reef, and partaking in plastic cleanups on remote coastlines. Through this experience I met my first sea turtle, swam with my first sharks, and met such beautiful people that are still close friends to this day. This experience helped me realize where my heart truly felt at home, which I learned is in the Ocean. I am looking to find the next path to fulfill my heart, and to find the next experience for me to have stories to share and feelings to remember. I am headed to Hawaii to be back at the Ocean!

As mentioned before, I travelled to Belize to pursue volunteer work in conservation and sustainability. This project was hands-on, and every day I was expected to work with a team to complete a variety of tasks. These included helping around the island with general maintenance, such as repairing structures damaged by weather, and cleaning and organizing dive gear.

Off the island, my team and I did work to remove the invasive lionfish species in the reefs and waters around the island. This involved travelling on a boat around the island while learning to spearfish. At other times, we would travel around remote coastlines to clean up litter and discarded plastic in the area.

Additionally, I was expected to take part in classes to ensure I was educated in the local environment and cultures of the island. Overall, this was a large-scale project that depended on the synergetic work of a strong team. Being part of this project was extremely beneficial in growing my skills in teamwork and environmental conservation and restoration. Through this, I found a love for working outdoors and putting in hard work to benefit the land around me.
