Hello people!! I’m Coco, a young girl who’s doing her gap year. I’m now living abroad, in Germany, working as an aupair, but from january I want to start this experience as a traveller. I really like adventures, meet new people and get in touch with other languages and cultures. I really like the sea and the sun, and for this reason i’m looking for new adventures in some places where I can find a hot weather and maybe the sea.🌊🌞

My experience with ina and the children was in the end great! I stayed with the family six weeks, i had the possibility to create a strong bond not only with the children but also with the other workawayer Hannah(i'm actually in Germany with her now) and some locals form La Lajita!The work was quit simple, you are suppose to work 10 hours per day… read more and share the work with the other workawayer (so 5 hours per person) but me and Hannah worked all the time together, spending the 10 hours together. The work is basically bringing the children to school, spending the morning with the little boy, taking the children from school and spend some time with them until Ina is back home. I really loved morning shift because you had the possibility to stay a lot with the little boy: he really likes to go to the park in the center of La Lajita and play for a couple of hours (just remember to put some sunscreen on his body and his hat). If you still have some time left before taking the other children from school I suggest to drink a leche y leche in the bars (the best la "Cafeteria la Juanita"!) to meet some locals and get in touch with la Lajita's culture: just take with you something for the little one, like a toast, a banana or something else. He really enjoyed to stay with us in the park but also in the bar, he made some friends :)))Since me and Hannah were sharing the work, when one was taking the children from school the other was at home preparing lunch for the little child and for us. The evening was quit fast, you can play cards with the children, play with the ball or dance 💃🏽 The cultural exchange was really great, i improved my spanish a lot but I also had the possibility to learn some german words (one of the children was before speaking to me in spanish and then translating in german to Hannah!).

Let me tell you about the free time: amazing! You can go to the beach, chilling there for hours, drink cerveza in the bars or travel the island. I visited with Hannah Costa Calma, Morro Jable and Puerto de Rosario but we really fell in love with La Lajita and his people: they treated us like locals, the talked to us, shared food and we drank cervezas together, having so much fun!!! Me and Hannah were also so lucky because in the exact period we were staying in La Lajita there were a lot of parties in the city and so we met so many people and had so much fun.
Now let's talk about the bad side: Ina's home is quiete a mess, having 4 children, 4 dogs can be very stressful and create a lot of dirt and chaos. I found the accommodation quit disgusting because it is really a mess, full of animals like cochroaches (they are really disgusting, and they can live the perfect life in Ina's place since there are so many spots where they can hide). Even if me and Hannah tried to clean a lot, putting some traps for the cochroaches in the bathroom and in our room, it was still not enough.
To be honest the first minutes I was in the house my reaction was to leave and go back home because it really is quit a shock to live here, but I'm glad I stayed all the weeks because I really had the possibility to create a bond with the little child and the seven years old child and meeting amazing people in La Lajita. I'm so grateful that I shared this experience with Hannah, she really helped me all through the staying and we really become "sisters": if she wasn't there with me i don't know if I could have stayed all the six weeks. I was lucky I met Hannah, I don't know how the experience would have been without her, that's why I can understand that you can have a hard time at Ina's place if you don't find the right company.
I'm also thankful to Ina, she really is caring and gentle and tries to help you providing what you ask.
