  • Description

    Hi there!

My name is Ben, and I'm an avid traveler with a deep passion for volunteering and exploring diverse cultures around the world. My experiences as a former Peace Corps Volunteer and my academic background in International Development have equipped me with invaluable skills and experiences that I'm eager to share through Workaway opportunities.

Beyond my professional expertise in volunteer management, grant reporting, and program coordination, I bring a genuine love for community engagement and making a positive impact. Whether it's teaching high school mathematics or leading HIV prevention initiatives, I thrive on the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to local communities.

Outside of my professional life, you'll often find me immersed in nature, whether tending to a garden, working on trails, or embarking on cycling adventures.

What truly excites me about Workaway is the chance to lend a helping hand, learn from fellow volunteers, and immerse myself in new cultures. I approach each experience with an open mind and a collaborative spirit, ready to adapt to any challenge and forge lasting connections along the way.

    Education and Academic Expertise:

With a Master's degree in Development Studies from the London School of Economics and Political Science, I've developed a deep understanding of international affairs, development economics, and the intersection of environmental issues with development.

    Professional Experience:
As a program manager at a small international nonprofit, I've honed my project management, budgeting, and stakeholder coordination abilities across multiple countries, including Uzbekistan, Nicaragua, Romania, Thailand, Azerbaijan, and North Macedonia.

I've overseen the recruitment, training, and monitoring of contractors and sub-grant partners, ensuring compliance with USG regulations and grant budgets.

In addition, I've managed cross-cultural relationships, negotiated contracts, and designed small grant programs to support community projects. I've also coordinated international educational and cultural exchange programs, demonstrating my ability to handle logistics and budgeting effectively.

    Volunteer and Leadership Experience:

From teaching high school mathematics and life skills in Lesotho as a U.S. Peace Corps volunteer to leading service trips and serving as a Site Leader with Break Away in New Orleans, I've developed strong interpersonal and leadership skills. My experience in coordinating volunteer efforts and managing group dynamics will be invaluable in any Workaway setting.

    Additional Skills:

I have advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite and am familiar with tools like Qualtrics, Adobe Pro, and Canva. My adaptability and willingness to learn new skills ensure I can quickly integrate into diverse environments and contribute effectively to your project.

Overall, I'm passionate about making a positive impact through meaningful work, and I'm eager to collaborate with hosts who share similar values. I look forward to the opportunity to discuss how my skills and experiences align with your project needs.
