Starting in Sayulita, Mexico (starting July 20), and open to connecting with fellow travelers and hosts! I’m spending the next few months traveling and doing meaningful Workaway exchanges!

Hi! I’m Yanitsa — a name that means “desired by the universe.”
I’m a 26-year-old singer-songwriter, outdoor educator, and lifelong learner. I come from a rich cultural lineage: I’m a first-generation American, with roots in Nicaragua through my mother, who immigrated to the U.S. as a young child, and from my father, who is Chicano and Indigenous to the borderlands between Texas and Mexico. I have just wrapped up living in the United State's Highest Elevated City Leadville, Colorado the last three years and I am excited to travel in a meaningful + sustainable way!
My work has always centered around connection — to people, to land, and to purpose. I’ve taught high school Spanish and led week-long backpacking trips with youth in the wilderness, weaving together language, movement, and healing. I’m passionate about creating spaces — especially outdoors — where young people feel safe, seen, and free.
Beyond education, I wear many creative and grounding hats:
🌿 I’m a passionate yoga + movement advocate, making sure the cultural roots of that practice remain reverent and respected
📲 I also have experience in social media and digital marketing, currently leaving my role as digtial marketer and social media manager for an outdoor school— managing content, engagement, and outreach across platforms.
🎶 I sing, write songs, and dance (I even performed in the Super Bowl 51 halftime show with Lady Gaga!).
🧗🏽♀️I love rock climbing, slow moments in nature, and meaningful conversations
Part of my life’s path right now is rooted in Indigenous ceremonial work and Rites of Passage. I’m apprenticing in a traditional 4-day solo in the wilderness paired with four days of fasting ceremony, preparing to eventually step into the role of guide. It’s sacred, slow work that informs everything I do — teaching me humility, reverence, and interdependence.
I’m currently traveling while enrolled in graduate school remotely through Western Colorado University. I’m pursuing a degree in Environmental Management with a focus on resilient and sustainable communities. I'm especially excited about Workaway opportunities that weave together cultural exchange, land-based learning, community organizing, food systems, or digital storytelling.
Thank you for taking the time to read a bit about me. I’m so looking forward to learning, working, and sharing in meaningful ways.Interests

More details about your skills
I bring a wide range of skills and a genuine love for meaningful, hands-on work. My background is rooted in both education and community-based projects, and I thrive in spaces where I can contribute creatively, thoughtfully, and with care.
🌿 Cooking & Cleaning:
I grew up in a multigenerational household where cooking was an act of love and care. I’m comfortable preparing meals for large groups and keeping shared spaces clean, organized, and welcoming.
🌱 Outdoor Work & Gardening:
I have experience working outdoors in both educational and volunteer settings. I’m comfortable with physical tasks like yard work, weeding, planting, trail maintenance, and basic land care. I find joy in being outside and contributing to spaces that nourish others.
🎓 Teaching & Academia:
I’ve worked as a high school Spanish teacher and currently study Environmental Management with a focus on resilient and sustainable communities. I'm skilled in curriculum design, facilitating workshops, and supporting others in their learning process. I'm a strong writer, researcher, and communicator.
🤲🏽 Community Building:
My work has always centered around relationship-building. Whether in schools, on outdoor trips, or through ceremony, I value creating inclusive, connected environments. I show up with empathy and adaptability.
💻 Digital Marketing & Social Media:
I currently work as a social media assistant for a language school, managing content creation, strategy, and platform engagement. I’m comfortable with tools like Canva, Instagram, email marketing platforms, and storytelling through digital media.
🧠 Independent & Self-Motivated:
I’m a quick learner who takes initiative. As a remote grad student and solo traveler, I’ve built strong time management, communication, and problem-solving skills. I love jumping into new experiences and learning along the way.
Most importantly, I bring heart, humility, and a willingness to help where needed — whether that’s in the kitchen, garden, classroom, or online.Age

What else ...
I love connecting with people through shared joy and creativity. I’m always up for a good card game or board game night — one of my favorites is Sequence, (but I’ll play anything if you teach me!). Karaoke is one of my favorite pastimes — I’m all in.
I really enjoy watching movies, going to film festivals, and catching live theater or stand-up comedy when I can. I have a deep appreciation for storytelling in all its forms — from live performance to late-night jam sessions. I also write and sing original music, and love sharing songs around a campfire or in cozy living rooms.
A perfect evening for me might include a walk at sunset, a shared meal, some laughs, and a movie or concert to wind down the night. Some more information
