  • Description

Hello! I'm Vera, 36 years old, originally from Italy. I discovered Workaway through a friend, and from the very beginning it felt like something deeply aligned with how I like to live—open, collaborative, and connected to people and places in a meaningful way.

Since I was 19, I’ve been living, studying and working around Europe. I speak English and Spanish fluently, and recently started learning French. Over time, I’ve realized that while I’ve enjoyed both big cities and small towns, the places where I truly feel at home are those surrounded by nature.

Climbing is a big part of my life—it’s more than a sport for me. It grounds me, motivates me, and teaches me to be patient and present. That same spirit of exploration led me, not long ago, to spend a year traveling in a van across Southern Europe and Morocco with my dog, Chandra. She's been with me since she was three months old—now she's nine. She’s full of energy and curiosity, loves hiking and swimming, but she’s also incredibly calm and grounded. In new environments, she might start off a bit shy, but within a few hours she settles in and finds her rhythm.

I tend to adapt easily to new situations and really enjoy the variety that comes from meeting people from different backgrounds. I’m naturally curious and love to contribute wherever I can, whether that’s helping in the garden, taking care of animals, lending a hand with small renovation projects, or cooking a shared meal. Recently, I’ve been diving deeper into cooking, and I’d love to keep learning from others and sharing meals together.

What matters most to me are relationships built on mutual trust, care, and respect. I’ve been lucky to find deep and lasting friendships through shared experiences, and I always look forward to new ones. I’d describe myself as calm but full of energy—somewhere between introvert and extrovert, depending on the situation. What stays constant is the joy I find in living simply, in good company, and close to nature.

  • More details about your skills

Living in different countries from a young age has taught me to be independent, adaptable, and resourceful.
I left home soon after high school and quickly learned how to take care of myself—speaking more than one language, driving, cooking, managing my health, and facing unexpected situations with creativity and calm… and of course, learning how to enjoy life with what you have!
I studied Psychology at university and later completed a one-year course in massage therapy. I’m deeply interested in well-being—for both people and animals.
Over the years, I’ve taken care of my dog Chandra through several surgeries, learning how to handle post-operative care, including injections and physical recovery.
I’ve worked in different fields: as a waitress, in a vintage clothing store, and for many years as a photographer. I also have experience in babysitting, having taken care of children aged between 8 months and 8 years.
In my first Workaway-style experience (before having a profile), I helped renovate an old farmhouse and worked on creating a permaculture garden—projects that taught me a lot and sparked a strong interest in sustainability and hands-on learning.
I hold a standard car license as well as a truck license, and I travel with my own 4x4 vehicle.
I’m fluent in Italian (my native language), English, and Spanish (which I learned while living in Barcelona for three years). I’d be happy to teach Italian to anyone who’s interested.
I enjoy cooking and have basic skills in Italian cuisine, which I’m excited to keep developing.
Overall, I’m not afraid of hard work, I learn quickly, and I approach tasks with curiosity, care, and a good dose of humor.
