Description

Hi I'm Tom and I'm looking forward to beginning my Workaway experience starting in California. Having lived, worked and enjoyed being in London for a long time I decided it was time to take a break from London life and a good time do some travelling and something different. I have recently been working in Portugal and England as a surf coach and in the surf and hospitality industry. I am now ready and keen to start my Workaway experience in California.

I have always had a passion for travel and have previously spent time in many countries throughout Europe, Asia, the Americas and Africa and I have lived in the UK, Japan and Australia. I like being active and creative and have a range of interests and passions including surfing, music, art, painting, cycling, walking, healthy living, cooking, the environment, nature, social causes, self-development and growth. I am an open minded, conscientious, curious, fun loving and reliable person. I love to meet and work with people from different parts of the world and different walks of life and develop friendships and learn new things from each other and from new experiences, that is part of the reason I love travel. I like to travel with a purpose and be part of a something and make a real contribution and really experience the community and the country that I am in and that is why I am really interested in Workaway.

I like to work hard whether that be in my job, volunteering or just generally lending a hand or helping out. I am very adaptable, focused and enjoy a challenge. I have previously worked in the Surf industry, Healthcare regulation, Financial services, Customer services, Hospitality, Teaching and Design. I also have experience working in farming, building, print, delivery driving, retail, in hospitality as a bartender and barista and I have worked for hostels and guest houses at reception, as an evening host and driver and in the café. I am a qualified surf instructor and lifeguard and I have studied Art, music and landscape architecture and design at university. I have organized and participated in art, design and music exhibitions, shows, concerts and workshops. I have a lot of experience working with computers and different software applications such as design, video and audio as well as office and desktop. I used to have good standard of Spanish and French but due to a lack of practice recently I am a little rusty but trying to improve again. I am always keen to develop and learn new skills.
