  • Description

    Hello people around the world,

    We are Bianca and Frank.

We love nature. We are active garbage collectors and animal rights activists. In our free time we take part in animal welfare demonstrations, are involved in various environmental and animal welfare organizations and organize garbage collection days.

Since April 2022 we expand our commitment in Europe. We work primarily as volunteers for animal welfare for sanctuaries and animal shelters. We want to support animals and save them wherever we can.

Since 5 years (including Germany) we gain experience with cows, pigeons, pigs, chickens, turkeys, rabbits, sheep, goats, horses, cats and dogs. Before we knew about Workaway we contacted the organizations directly.

We are traveling with our female dog Julka. She is an older mixed breed lady. She is friendly and curious, but needs her space for herself.

    Our international experience (without Workaway):

    4 Weeks in France:
We was responsible for over 200 different animals.
We cleaned the stables of horses, pigs, chickens, ducks, rabbits and guinea pigs. We fed them, cleaned the bowls and helped with the medications. In the mornings we worked in a team, but in the evening we was alone with one other volunteer. I (Bianca) developed a plan to not forget any animal. And it worked:-)

    6 weeks in Czech Republic:
We was responsible for approx 30 dogs and I couldn't count the cats :-) This experience was very good. We learned a lot of dogs from a dog trainer. The mainly tasks were cleaning the kennels, feeding, brushing and washing the animals and cleaning maaany bowls :-) The shelter would have needed an extra volunteer to clean the bowls :-)
We wanted to help the shelter regular 2 weeks but we stayed longer. They needed more help immediately because of the new dogs from the Ukraine. And we are very thankful for this experience because there were not only calm dogs and puppies, also difficult ones. I (Bianca) was the only volunteer who was supposed to take care of them, because the leader said, that I'm very calm and that's good for the aggressive animals (including the "killer" dogs, that would always kill other dogs).

    6 weeks in Romania:
That was almost the same like in Czech Republic with the diffence that there were approx 170 dogs and only two employees. Maybe you know in Romania are a lot of hungry, thin, injure or death dogs and cats. And that is what we saw. We helped where we could. And if it was necessary, all day long.

    4 1/2 month in Slovakia:
In this country, we helped a little sanctuary when it was winter. We took care of sheep, goats, dogs, chickens and rabbits. We also cleaned the house and cooked. Once the hosts were on vacation and we managed everything powerful alone for three weeks.

2 weeks in Sweden (first workaway experience):
We helped a person with a handicap (and 5 poodles) with her garden and dog parcour. We rebuilt the dog course, mowed the lawn and created a maze for the dogs. We chopped wood, removed branches from large parts of the property, uncovered overgrown flagstones, put up a fence, tended the flower beds and tidied up the training room.

Next year I'm (Bianca) going to travel around Asia without my husband. Until then, we have time to gain more experience in Europe.
