Activities i am interested in:
I am currently in the North Island of New Zealand.
My next destination:
New Zealand - from Nov 2024 until Nov 2025 View allDescription
Kia Ora, my name is Portia and I’m from Whanganui, New Zealand. I am a seasonal worker who does Tree Planting in the winter and odd outdoor jobs in the Summer. Currently I am working in the Rangitikei Gorge searching and destroying an invasive plant called Byrony. Although these jobs are tough, I absolutely love them.
My spare time in the sunshine is spent hiking, trail running, snorkelling, swimming or creating art. On days where the clouds gather and rain falls I tend to dive into a good book, create artwork or put words on a page. I am a keen explorer and lover of the Moana and Whenua we are lucky enough to be surrounded by. I would say I live a rather holistic lifestyle, putting a big fucus on my health and wellbeing by eating whole, natural foods, using natural products and keeping good habits (such as getting lots of sunlight).
I have joined this site in the hopes of doing hands on work with individuals/communities who require help and are able to offer an environment in which we can both learn from one another. I am a very hard worker and eager to give anything a go.
I am eager to learn a whole lot about a range of things. These include permaculture, wood working, sailing, sustainable living, holistic practices, rock carving, natural horemanship, farming and all forms of creative expression through art. I understand most of this can be done by taking a class or course but believe the best way to learn is from one on one mentorship from someone who genuinely wants to teach and pass on their knowledge. I will truely appreciate the opportunity to learn and work very hard to help you with whatever projects you need.
I am working until the middle of February then am wanting to do woofing until the next planting season starts at the end of May. I have a self contained truck so have transport and accomadation if needed.
Cheers ! :)Interests

More details about your skills
My past job experiences mainly consist of hospitality and a variety of labourhand work. For the past year I have been doing tree planting and bush work.
I have great people skills from these various customer service based roles and can work well both by myself and within a team.
Outside of hospitality and my current bush work, I have also worked as a Kiwifruit Pollinator which involved driving around a quad bike to spray the flowers. I worked on an apple and kiwifruit orchard during thinning season. Picked grapes at a vineyard. Staked bails of hay on a horse farm. Mowed lawns. Weeded gardens. Planted seedlings. I've worked two tree planting season down southland in the Winter. I have house/pet sat for family and friends and helped out selling hand crafted jewellery at a local market. I also have a nack for creating dreadlocks and doing small stick n poke tattoos.
I’m always wanting to expand my skill set and have a positive can-do attitude when it come to learning from others.
During my last workaways I was involved with weeding, stacking firewood, planting native trees/plants, and pest control using various traps.Age

What else ...
I love to read, write and paint. It’s incredibly fun letting my creative mind flow freely and seeing what wild ideas come. Whether that be writing a weird short story or painting a funky picture. I’d love to learn more ways to express my creative mind, such as carving or pottery.
I also love to dance, sing (poorly) and listen to music. I haven’t yet learned an instrument but know the time will come soon when I do.Some more information
