Description
Hello! My name is Órla and I am a travel-loving linguist who loves learning about different cultures and visiting new places in the world. I am open-minded, empathetic, hard-working and always up for an adventure (even if I seem a little shy at first!).
I work remotely as an interpreter/translator and speak English, Spanish, French and Russian. I grew up in the UK but as an adult I have lived in various countries. I lived in Colombia for two years, during which time I travelled all around the country and visited neighbouring countries too. During my studies I also spent time living in Spain, France and Russia. My favourite part of these experiences has always been meeting people from different cultures and learning about their ways of life: their traditions, music, dance, food, worldviews and everything in between!
My biggest passions alongside languages are human rights, environmental justice and education. I am always looking for ways to use my languages for a good cause. I have volunteered in humanitarian and educational projects in Kenya, Spain, France, Russia, and of course my home country.
I also have lots of teaching experience. I was an English teacher at a Colombian university for a year, and French and English tutor for two years in the UK, as well as volunteering as an English teacher in a summer language camp in the Altai Krai and in primary schools in Kenya.
My hobbies include hiking, aerial silks, pole dance (and just about any type of dance!), music (again, just about any type!), running and baking.

My native language is English and I have experience teaching English as a foreign language. I have a degree in French, Spanish and Russian, but my Russian is a little rusty now and I'd like to practise it. I'd be confident teaching French and Spanish from beginner to advanced level too. Spanish is my strongest foreign language because I lived in Colombia for two years, but my French is solid too.

More details about your skills
I have extensive teaching experience, particularly teaching English. I completed a British Council teaching placement as an English teacher at Unitrópico, a public university in Colombia, for one year. During this time, I directed the English club in the university, providing extracurricular cultural and language learning, taught English lessons alongside lecturers, sometimes leading the entire class, delivered English classes to university staff, planned lessons and created content responding to students’ needs and engagement. My teaching style revolves around games, speaking and my approachability - I like students to feel like they can ask questions whenever they do not understand something.
I have experience teaching all age groups. I worked with children and teenagers as an English and French tutor in the UK for two years, working both in schools and with private clients, including a programme for disadvantaged students. I have volunteered as an English teacher for children and teenagers in the Altai Krai and primary schools in Kenya. I have also worked with adults, delivering Carbon Literacy Training to staff members when working in the climate change team at my local council. Here, I also developed a Carbon Literacy Training toolkit for community climate action groups, which involved creating online teaching resources and additional materials for an entire course.
As well as teaching, I have expertise as an interpreter and translator. I have an MSc in Interpreting and Translation and a BA in Modern Languages (French, Spanish and Russian). My areas of specialism include environmental justice, education, climate change and human rights.
