  • Description

Hi! My name is Nora Engelen, and I’m an 19-year-old Work & Traveler from Germany. I’ve lived in Vancouver since October 22st, and I’d love to explore more of Canada.
I always knew I needed to get out of my home country and see the world. The German word "Fernweh" describes it perfectly—it means a longing for far-off places, so basically the opposite of homesick. After graduating high school in June 2024, I realized this was my chance. Going on an adventure at just 18 years old—what could go wrong?
I’m really open to meeting new people, facing challenges, and making incredible life-changing memories. I’m not really a summer person; I enjoy winter way more. The cold, the quiet, the snow—especially the snow!
I love animals, especially cats and dogs.
I enjoy socializing with people and learning about different countries and their cultures, but I also appreciate some alone time to go hiking and explore nature and its wildlife.
I worked as a Sales Associate at two different stores: JD Sports and Icebreaker.
I make it a priority to keep shared spaces clean and tidy while respecting personal space. I don’t have any pets or allergies, and I don’t smoke.

I am posting a lot of my travel journey on my Instagram so if you like, come and follow me there: @nora.engel.en

More details about my language interests
When learning a language, you also always learn about a culture. Every language has words with different meanings, and many times you can't even translate a word into another language. These words tell you the most about a language. The words that can only be used in that language reveal what the culture values and what it does not. For example, the Inuit have different words for snow, depending on its quality. For most other cultures, this is not important, but for them, it is crucial for survival.
