Description
Hello!
My name is Merle and I'm planning my year abroad in Japan before I dive into my teaching career!
I have finished my Master of Education in Arts and English early this year and decided I wanted a year abroad before I fully commit to teaching in Germany.
I am easygoing, creative, friendly and love to make new friends while traveling!
On my journeys I keep art journals to keep my memories not only in my mind but also on paper by drawing interactions, memories, impressive sights or anything else that caught my interest. It's so nice to be able to flip through an entire trip like this and I'd love to be able to "revisit" Japan in this way years ahead from now by flipping through my journals :)
As this is supposed to be a work and travel year, you will find me doing all kinds of stuff when I'm off duty from my work.
Most likely you can find me somewhere drawing or sketching in my journal, practicing my Japanese skills, hopefully befriending some locals or other travellers, having some tea in a tea house close by, wandering around waiting for something interesting to discover.
I'm always in for new adventures and things to do and try out. I'm sure I will find a new hobby to try during my time abroad!

More details about your skills
I have a Masters of Education with the subjects English and Arts. I get along with kids of all ages and love to work at schools or preschools, especially when I get to do creative projects with kids!
I can paint, draw, sketch, I know how to sew, basic cross stitching and more.
Name an art technique and I will go learn it via Youtube tutorials! (If I haven't tried it before)
Along my studies I have been working in a brewery where it gets very busy, especially during the christmas market season. Now that I finished my degree, I am working part time in a bakery along the shifts at the brewery.
I am used to working in a team, doing my tasks fast and efficiently and it comes easy to me to be customer friendly, keeping a smile on at all times. I love working with people. I am very chatty and friendly and am always hoping to make someone's day a bit better with a smile and some small talk if time allows! (Germans can be a bit grumpy but tend to warm up easily when they are confronted with some friendliness :) )
So to conclude:
-I love working in a team, but can also work efficiently alone
-I like working with kids or people in general
-I have experience with working with both adults and kids of all ages!
-I am very creative and am versed around various art techniques

My time in Taketa was lovely. I felt like part of the family and made me fall in love with the concept of sharehouse!
Everyone was really sweet, I got a lot of help with setting up my SIM card and I also was supported when I had to go to the doctor.
