  • Description

Hello, my name is Mads Damm. I'm 26, from Denmark, and I am looking to find the place to take my next step towards.

Back home I used to live in a city called Aalborg. There I worked as a handicap carer, at a kids play-land called Leos Legeland, and as a ice-cream truck driver / salesperson. Three good jobs that each has taught me something, as well as kept me busy on an upwards spiral.

Currently, I am in Spain, being hosted working at my second Workaway ‘home’. 🙏💚
Being just one month in, I feel as if this experience of travelling has lasted a year. Its so positive.
Meeting & living with these many new people who Ive met so far, is feeling so exciting & natural to me.

Step by step im improving my Spanish. It became a goal. Theres just too many cool, insightful conversations, that im missing out on otherwise - without that social tool.

I would be very interested in helping out at a place that has a social impact.
Doing work that has a positive effect for people, animals, or both!
That for me would make the work feel meaningful.

Where-ever I end up going next, I hope it's a place with a sense of community.
The best part any of the trips I've had, has always been the people there.
I would also count there being nature and animals as a huge plus!

Six months before I headed to Spain, I managed to pay off my last bit of debt.
To make the trip less time-bound, I was hoping to find work that would include a small pay - enough to cover some of the basic living expenses.

If not, then that isn't necessarily a deal-breaker though.
    - As of now, I have about enough, that I can sustain 3, 4 or perhaps 5 more months of travelling. I would love to slow that ticking clock tho..

I am looking forward to finding this next task to grow with, and to hopefully being the right workawayer, to help you and your vision.
Adding positivity & dedicaded work to it.

Feel free to shoot me a message out of the blue, I would be excited to read about your project, where-ever that may be in the world..! 🌟

    Thank you,
    & Cheers

As far as spare-time activities goes, i’ve branched out and tried different things.

Cooking class, where I was to try and learn some more of the basics of cooking. Which has been great, in establishing a habit of eating well, to try and give the body what it needs.

Guitar playing, i’ve enjoyed trying to get a hang of. I'm not very good, but would like to learn more. There's something really cool and flow-state inducing, about strumming out music for yourself.

Drawing/painting, is a fun, yet very focus-intense passtime, that also has taught me something about how my brain thinks. Much with geometrical shapes, making up a pattern as I go, drawing the lines where, by my logic, they fit. 🪷📏
I don't draw often, but when I do, its for 3 hours, forgetting that I made tea.. Which is now cold.. Though still tasty with honey in it.

Yoga, I was introduced to by a friend in Aalborg.
I was already stretching at home, following along to videos, which had led me a little bit into yoga.
She, my friend, was practicing at an actual yoga place, while training to be a yoga teacher. And so she took me there one day, and man, even just walking in there had an air of calm to it. With a very open & welcoming group of people to go along. And it was also just.. Practically, a great way to stretch.
So I started practicing there regularly, and it became a really good & beneficial habit for me.
I still enjoy it, and its even better practiced together, which is cool. 🙏

Lets throw in a bad habit also, to give this text less of a purely golden gloss apperance..:

I had my first cigarette when I was 16. My buddy from school had nicked a couple Red Cecil from his grandma, who in later years would just give them to us.
Me and a couple other friends, would between classes sneak behind the school and light up. Feeling that rush of adrenaline, mixed with nicotine, of doing something that we weren’t supposed to.
I have had an on/off relation to nicotine from since then.
Now, it’s something I use and enjoy, more mindfully, when there's occasions for it. For example with a beer, or a one-cube whisky - a ciggy comes naturally.
I do not smoke in my every day.
In periods I have used snus, more casually, but I generally keep it to a minimum.

Chess, I played with a neighbor I met, when I first moved to Aalborg.
I hadn’t played since I was a kid, and my uncle taught me what the pieces could do and such. He used to run the queen out early, find a weakness in my non-suspecting pawn-structure, and slaughter my back line of rooks and horses.
my neighbor and I were both equally non-practiced (bad), so our couple games were a lot of fun.
    He said to download an app called Chess.com, which he was using, if I was up for playing more;
    "For sure man. 🙌"
And after a while, and a few hundred games against him, and other players online, I thought why not see if Aalborg had a chessclub.
They did, I tried it out.
I met a bunch of good friends there.
Aswell as definitely having learned more about chess than when I started.
I'm still only closing in on being rated a thousand, which is a little milestone I’ve got set for me.
The social aspect of it, is what I have appreciated most about it, more-so than the boardgame itself.
An interesting, and sometimes really gripping & fun boardgame, but not something I'm aspiring to be great at.

Another thing that I particularly enjoy, while finding useful and engaging, is writing.
I’ve been trying to writing a few pages, every day, for about a year and a half now.
Having before felt like it could be a struggle putting my thoughts into words, It felt worthwhile practicing, writing them down on paper/screen. More or less free-flow writing out whatever was there, to be given language. Danish or english.
While also getting faster & more precise, at tapping it out on the keyboard.
I feel that this has given me a lot, and is something I wanna continue to explore, and get better at.. specifically editing..
I was thinking maybe making a sorts of traveler's journal during my stay.
I'm imagining there will be a lot new to be written about..!

Thank you for reading, feel free to reach out, and I wish you the best with your project, or travels, regardless if we ever meet or not. Have a good one.
    Cheers. 🌿🌟
