Description

We are a well-travelled couple (Canadian/Australian) in our 50s who are embarking on an extended journey around Australia in our Caravan. We are travelling with our 18 year old Daughter (who has her own account and profile, but will be linked to ours). We are excited about getting to know people and places around the country as we travel. We (Mel and Jeff) are both teachers (ELL, Biology, Photography) and have spent much of our teaching careers at international schools - most recently in East Africa. We are an artistic family - Mel paints, Jeff is a photographer, and our daughter Joccoa is beginning her career as a free-lance artist. We are also 'Digital Nomads' with on-line work for a few hours a week. As we travel and explore new areas we are particularly interested in sustainable living, growing and eating good food, being out in the natural world, and growing together as a family.

Jeff is good with tools, mechanical things, etc. A bit of a Mr-Fixit. He is skilled with technology and anything related to digital photography and digital design. Farm work and gardening are interests (but he needs to build up some calluses). He is a quick learner and would be willing to put his hands to most work. He also loves to cook. Jeff has been a Biology/Environmental Science teacher for many years and would love to put some of that knowledge into practice.

Mel has a great artistic eye and is talented in most aspects of art, sewing, knitting, etc. Mel loves to bake (gluten and dairy-free). Mel is interested in gardening and growing food, and would love to learn more of the skills necessary to grow green things. Mel is a teacher of English to language learners.

What else ...

We are most interested in volunteering where there is an option to park and live in our (rather large) caravan and because of our various dietary needs, we would most likely want to cook for ourselves, but sharing meals is good if the diet can be met. We are traveling and volunteering with our daughter, so there would most likely be three of us.

Jeff is an avid Mt. Biker and we all have bikes. We like hiking, art galleries, op shops, museums and quirky coffee shops. We love to swap stories, particularly travel stories.

Mel works on-line teaching ELL so we would be looking for places to volunteer that allow her to continue to have time to connect with her students. Having a Telstra signal is essential.

Jeff may be working as a free-lance photographer if and when opportunities arise.
