Description
Hello! We’re Janine and Mark, living just outside Washington, DC.
Janine is deeply motivated by helping others and thrives on connecting people within her network—a friend once described her as a "collector of good people." Known as the planner and organizer among friends, Janine has dedicated over a decade to The Nature Conservancy and other conservation organizations, following her passion for protecting the planet. Outside of work, she is an avid portrait photographer and a devoted “serial foster,” often welcoming cats, dogs, and litters of kittens into our home. She also volunteers with the American Red Cross, supporting causes close to her heart.
Mark, a car and motorcycle enthusiast, loves both driving and repairing them; he's rebuilt engines and is currently helping a friend restore a classic Studebaker Avanti. He dreams of having a three-car garage to restore his own vehicles someday. A DIY home repair expert, Mark has fixed nearly everything in their home, from air conditioners to roof leaks. In his career, he’s spent over a decade with the American Institute of Architects in marketing, and at home, he’s also our resident chef, known for creating amazing meals from even the sparsest pantry.
Now, with our children grown, we’re embracing this next chapter beyond office life, ready to explore new passions and adventures together.

Mark and Janine are enthusiastic DIYers with a broad range of skills. Mark can tackle nearly any household repair, from car maintenance to tech troubleshooting, while Janine is skilled in crafts, sewing and furniture refinishing. She also has a passion for portrait photography and would be delighted to capture a family portrait on-site. Both enjoy outdoor projects, from tree planting to yard beautification, and share a deep love for animals—mucking stalls included! With their energy, can-do spirit, and significant experience in both for-profit and nonprofit sectors, they’re ready to dive in and make an impact. They are ready to work!
