Activities i am interested in:
Hi! One of my main interests is learning craft skills, and carpentry. I teach other kids how to make objects using natural materials, and the kid in me would love to learn how to make a tree house!
My next destination:
Phnom Penh, Cambodia - from May 2023 until May 2024 View allDescription
I enjoy visiting other countries and learning from the different cultures I encounter. I'm passionate about helping out where I can, and feel that some of the possibilities I can offer include teaching English and teaching in the outdoors. Most of my working life has been at schools in the UK (including at an outdoor school that I started with my friend and business partner!). My favourite moments have been those spent with children for whom my help has really made a difference. I hope to be able to experience this through volunteering with workaway!

So my training is mainly in education, I recently passed my English teacher training (CELTA, 2022) and have been teaching English to Cambodians and other online clients. I also have experience of teaching young people how to make objects using natural materials like flax, sisal string, and bamboo. I am by no means an expert at craft work, but I have just picked a lot of things up from friends who are much better than me. It's mainly my interest which has helped me learn what I know! I used to work in primary schools as a teaching assistant, and this is where I gained my qualification to teach outdoor skills to children (Forest Schools - Open Awards 2018).

What else ...
I am mainly interested in volunteering to meet and make life long friends, to be exposed to parts of the worlds I would not normally be exposed to, and occasionally, to step out of my comfort zones! I used to be a keen rock climber, and when I choose a place to live, it will probably be near a mountain, a river, or a lake, but definitely somewhere near trees!
I am very interested in sustainable life styles, and learning how to live in harmony with the wilderness around us. Learning from a host who does sustainable farming in some way or has made their livelihood out of working with the land and with nature would be really interesting for me. I would like to keep an open mind when I volunteer, learning from my hosts and using my skills in whatever helpful way I can. In return for a work away experience, I can offer my sense of humor, my genuine interest in helping and a friendly easy going approach! Languages I speak include English (native speaker) and Japanese (fluent on a good day!).Some more information
