My name is Jordan. I am a foodie, music lover, serial plant-killer and explorer. I love all things nature and the outdoors. When I can, I enjoy going for hikes, climbing, playing soccer and gardening. I spend the majority of my free time at home with my dog and cat, Achilles and Abu, learning new skills, watching TV, playing board games, completing creative projects and laughing as much as possible. I work in the field of psychology and enjoy good conversation and exploring philosophical ideas.

A major motivation for our trip to Italy is to improve my fluency in Italian. Beyond a desire to explore my heritage, I'm drawn to the adventure and cultural exchange that travelling offers. Exploring new places, immersing myself in different traditions, learning from diverse perspectives, and creating new relationships across the world are all aspects of travel that deeply inspire and motivate me.

Overall, I am eager to step out of my comfort zone, learn, grow and create meaningful connections along the way.

I have studied psychology since 2013. I am currently a non-practising psychologist who completed my PhD in Clinical Psychology in 2023. I have worked in community, private and hospital settings. I have established communication and interpersonal skills that are highly transferable across several domains and lines of work. I have experience working with all ages groups with diverse ranges of abilities, personalities and conditions. I am outgoing by nature and enjoy a good chat and through my work have refined my ability to build rapport and genuine connections with new people. I have also worked in the research field. I have co-ordinated comprehensive, multi-site studies. Combined with my PhD experiences, i am well-versed in organisational and time management skills. I have also worked in hospitality as a cafe manager for over 9 years and thoroughly enjoy the work.

I had the absolute pleasure of staying in Belin Valley with the amazing Mirna, Andrea, Etienne and Iris.

The Hosts, were exceptional. I was met with a warm welcome and was immediately treated as part of the family. From the beginning, they went above and beyond to make me feel at home. They were invariably kind and generous, always ensuring I had everything I needed and more.

The Property, is a charming example of an Italian hillside retreat. The house is set in a valley featuring panoramic views of rolling hills dropped in lush, unspoiled greenery. The weather was amazing. In my downtime, I would go for walks around the property, chill on a hammock or explore the surrounding areas (there is a really cool river next door). The house itself has a rustic energy, filled with homemade furniture and modern amenities.

On several occasions, we visited surrounding towns as well as the port city of Genoa. Each time, the family would always offer to assist me with transportation and would provide recommendations. I was even escorted by Etienne on multiple occasions to various towns and provided information on local customs, go-to places and even some history.

The Work primarily consisted of practical activities. Tasks included DIY woodworking projects, light maintenance, and landscaping. The family continually encouraged creative input and the work itself was genuinely enjoyable and stimulating.

They offered a large amount of flexibility around the timing and type of work. For example, each day we reviewed a list tasks they were hoping to get done and I was able to select work based on my preferences and capabilities.

Even though I had little-to-no experience with manual labour, this was of particular interest to me, so the amazing Mirna took the time to demonstrate how each tool operated and walked me through how to complete each task in detail.

The Food was incredible. At the end of each day the family would come together at the dinner table and we would be treated to home-cooked Italian meals (often by the amazing head chef, Andrea), great wine and great conversation.

On some occasions, we were also lucky enough to be joined by some lovely friends of the family, Anadege and Diego, who would share stories, local cuisines and travel recommendations. Some personal highlights at the dinner table included being treated to live music by the highly talented Etienne as well as being served an open-fire BBQ by Diego.

The time I spent here, truthfully felt closer to a vacation with friends and family than anything else! Overall, my stay exceeded all expectations.

To the lovely Belin Valley family - Thank you all for treating me with such warmth and kindness, and for making my time in Liguria a truly unforgettable experience. There is no doubt that I will be returning in the future. I miss you all already!

To anyone looking for an authentic and wholesome Italian experience with incredible scenery and amazing company - I wholeheartedly recommend joining the Belin Valley Family!
