  • Description

Hello! We are Flo and Cornelia from Austria and we will tell you a bit more about us in the following:

    Flo:
Hello, my name is Florian, but my friends just call me Flo. I was born on a small farm in the south of Austria and always loved to work in nature and with animals. I grew up with sheep, donkeys, cats, a dog, ducks, a small forest and a garden which we still use today to grow our own beans, potatoes, herbs and other stuff. After school I was highly motivated for adventures, so I joined the military as a parachutist for 4 years, but then decided to do something more meaningful with my life. In order to find out more about agriculture and farming, I studied at the University of Agriculture in Vienna, but wasn't happy with the theoretical approach. I was used to work outside with animals, in the garden or forest and to learn things by doing, not just by hearing about them. On the other hand, I learned a lot about the global agriculture system and over the years I became more and more unsatisfied with modern farming methods (industrial livestock farming, heavy machines, pesticides, chemical fertilizer,...). I was inspired by an documentary about ecological farming in east Africa, especially in Tanzania, where people still know how to be self-sufficient on a small farming area, with basic tools and without chemical pesticides or fertilizers. I am still an adventurer and don't like to sit around in the same place for a long time and realized my interest in ecological farming - that´s why I am asking myself: "Why don't have both?". After graduating I want to travel the world and learn about permaculture and to use this knowledge someday at our farm in Austria. Currently i have finished the European Treeworker certificate and now i have my own business as arborist, i work with chainsaws every day and climb, prune, cut and fell trees.

    Cornelia:
Hey! My name is Cornelia (Corni) and I was also born in a small town in south Austria. I grew up with four siblings and a cat in a very old house. As I went to a Waldorf (Steiner) School, I gained different craft skills (gardening, woodwork, stitching, forging, weaving...) from a very young age on and always spent a lot of time outside. I was able to live in Argentina for a few months, to make internships on a farm and in a refugee camp and participate in various theater plays during my school times. During summer holidays I used to work in a pharmacy and got especially interested in herbal treatments. After school I spent one year working and traveling (e.g. working on a farm in Sweden) before settling myself in Vienna to study History and Communication Science. Once I finished these Bachelor degrees, I realized that I want to go back to more practical work outside and being in nature. I don´t feel comfortable with the capitalistic, self-centered and exploiting way of life in my home country anymore and I am kind of seeking my place in the world and a space where I can do something useful for others. After having been working as a journalist the last year, I am looking forward to get in touch with people on a deeper level. Also I am looking forward to working with my hands. My interests are wide ranging from learning more about agriculture and self-sustainable living to experiencing different ways of living and cultural exchanges in general. I am always happy to learn new things, make new friendships and spend evenings full of laughter - for that I also recently started to learn how to play Ukulele.. ;)
