Description
I really enjoy making a positive impact somewhere and helping people reach their potential. I’ve always enjoyed meeting new people and trying to see life from their perspective, as well as having the opportunity to connect with them across cultures. I think living in a country is one of the best ways to achieve this as well as becoming fluent in a language. I am keen to travel to Spain to improve my Spanish as well as to have the opportunity to share my language with others; this is a personal goal of mine. At home I live in a small village in a tight-knit community and I feel I know how to look out for others. Having three brothers, I am used to being social and can easily relate to sibling dynamics amongst children. I have volunteered at my local prep school as a teaching assistant for eight and nine year olds for two years for two hours a week for art lessons. I have also helped out at Spanish lessons for 12 and 13 year olds and umpired at sports fixtures for younger years and led training sessions for hockey and tennis. I lead an active and healthy lifestyle. I exercise every day, and enjoy hiking, running, skiing, swimming and taking part in team sports. I love the Spanish culture and language and I have studied it from the ages of 13 to 18, and it was my main subject, along with Biology and Chemistry, from 16 to 18. On top of this I have completed four weeks worth of Spanish language courses in Andalucia as well as a two-week conservation program in Tenerife. In my free time I enjoy art, reading, music, cooking and socialising with friends, and I always try to learn new things and make the most of the opportunities that I am given.

More details about your skills
I have gained valuable skills through both my academic and personal experience, which support my ability to communicate and meaningfully connect with people. With my experience of teaching and supporting children aged 7 to 14 through sport and academic lessons, I’ve developed patience and the ability to engage with different age groups in a productive and helpful way. I am a quick learner, which allows me to adapt easily to new environments - as shown during my work experience where I worked in a new department within a company every day for two weeks, quickly adjusting to my situation and learning from those around me. I also work well independently and have recently completed my Extended Project Qualification, researching the ways in which bilingualism can significantly improve cognitive functioning. This research deepened my interest in becoming bilingual and is one of the reasons I plan to study modern foreign languages at university. I enjoy cooking and enjoy trying new cuisines and can help out with chores around the house as I would do at home. Alongside this, I have strong organisational skills. I have planned and run art competitions and exhibitions for younger students at my last school. For these events I managed different areas such as general logistics, creative direction and safety requirements. I care deeply about the wellbeing of others and have experience supporting children with a range of needs. When I was younger, I was a buddy for a deaf and blind girl in my class, and I now help to teach children on the spectrum, adapting my approach to meet their individual needs. These experiences have shaped my ability to be empathetic, flexible and responsive - qualities which I believe are essential when working closely with families.
