  • Description

I’m a friendly, open-minded person who moved from country Victoria, Australia, to Adelaide, in 2019, to study in a new environment.
Currently, I am taking a gap year, after choosing to leave the career I chose to pursue at university. I have decided to prioritise some time to reconnect with the things and people I love, and find a more fulfilling carer to continue with at a later stage.
Over the last few months, I have enjoyed having the opportunity to interact with people between my two café jobs, reminding me about the importance community has in our day-to-day lives.

I spend my spare time practicing art in every which way I can, through drawing, painting, redesigning my room or the garden in our share house. Around our sharehouse, I also entertain myself by finding ways to improve or mend broken things, as the self-appointed handyman of the house.
One of my favourite things to do in the afternoons is walk my dog to the local dog parks. I find it special to speak to such diverse people and their pets from all walks of life, and it brings me joy being around others who appreciate the beautiful simplicity of being around dogs and outside in nature.

I last travelled to Thailand to visit my friend, who I lived with in 2016 during my three-month cultural exchange in Hawaii. When I visited her, she took me to where she was volunteering at a dog shelter/rescue clinic. I fell in love with the mission of these shelters and decided to sponsor a dog at the shelter for a couple of years to support the care and rehoming process of the stray animal problem in Thailand.
During my recent travel to Peru, I met a number of people who were volunteering to help control the overpopulation of stray dogs and cats. I learnt that their work included tasks related to, rescuing, caring, rehoming, spaying surgeries, together with educating to communities on the importance of controlling the issue for the welfare of animals and their communities as a whole, and speaking with them about what they can do to help.
The work of these volunteers and organisations really interested me, as I remembered how much I enjoyed caring for my own horses and dogs when they had serious injuries, when I was growing up.
Upon learning that a number of these volunteers had studied veterinary medicine or nursing, I was inspired to research the skills and work scope of veterinary nurses to see if the career would be a good fit for me. It was exciting to discover that my administration skills from my previous career, tied in with my rural background with animals, and strong experience and confidence in handling animals, matched the scope of work required for veterinary nursing.

I am passionate about contributing to improving the welfare of stray/injured animals and potentially gaining some insight into the veterinary industry. Being a bubbly and down-to-earth person, I am enthusiastic in helping and getting to know others, while learning new skills and about other people’s way of life.

If my personality and interests match the kind of work I can help you with, I look forward to speaking with you soon.
