Description

I'm a 32 year old, Irish woman travelling to Mexico on my own.
I've adored Mexican culture from a far for years so it's finally time to experience it for real.
I'm excited to learn about the folklore/mythology, anti-colonial activism, enviromental activism, underground arts/cultural scenes and general culture as well as engaging in my favourite hobbies (outdoor adventure and circus skills mostly).

I am no stranger to volunteer work and hardwork.
My own personal upbringing living off-grid and in a strong community combined with my experience working in non-localised activism projects like Extinction Rebellion, means I have a great understanding of how to libe in harmony with other people and nature as well as how to work together for a shared goal/objective.

My biggest drive/passion in life is being creative (through circus, performance and art) and trying to make the world a better place (at the risk of sounding cliche/cheesy)
Environmental and social justice issue occupy a large portion of my concentration in life, so being able to work on a Workaways project around either of these would be great.

-Circus skills: I can teach beginner level Tightwire, Highline, Vertical Dance, partner acro, hula hoop, poi, stilts and fire toys.
Doing Circus skills is a powerful tool to promote healthy development (confidence, perseverance, creativity, individuality, positive physical and mental health and much more) so using circus skills as a tool for social outreach/Occupational therapy is a huge passion of mine and work I hope to undertake again.
I’ve previously volunteered teaching circus skills in refugee camps in Palestine and in Greece and also worked as a Highwire/funambulist instructor.

- Working/looking after children. Through my circus instructor work and general child minding

-Metal and woodwork. I some experience with building with wood and metal work (I have an arc welding certificate also)

-Production management: My main professional job is a Production Coordinator for theatre, circus, festivals and outdoor spectacle so I can provide a wide range of organisational and computer skills

-Costume making/sewing, set and prop design for theatre

-Hospitality experience (I worked in bars and restaurants in my early 20s)

-I have experience of leading outdoor adventure centre groups (kayaking, camping expeditions and group games)

What else ...

I have a plan to buy land in Ireland and create an eco, self-sufficient community space. I grew up living offgrid and community based so I have experience with it but I would love to learn more about building community living structures as well as the eco, self-sufficient physical structures.

As well as the circus skills, I have a wide range of hobbies including horse riding, climbing, longboarding, art, DJing, roller skating and snowboarding with the hope to add/learn surfing and scuba diving too.

Another two huge passions of mine are:
-Folklore & Mythology. I adore our own Irish Folklore and Mythology and have a strong interest in learning about them in/from whatever country I travel to.
-Underground culture. I always love getting involved in underground/activist cultural/arts scenes.

Otherwise, I love just absorbing different cultures, music and meeting new people.
