  • Description

    Hello!
My name is Amete and I'm a Geography/English teacher from Australia. I'm easy going, love the outdoors, swimming, going on picnics, walks/hikes and being lost in the wilderness. A good sense of community is something that motivates me as a person/traveller to be better and engaged with other people whether that is through community gardens, weekly Park Run, participating in local shows ect.
I’ve grown up in a small community on the East Coast of Australia where we have a monthly community BBQ where we all bring food and chat to catch up with one another. The older I get, the more I realise the importance of having a networks of people around you.
Music and good food bring me happiness, mainly because that means they can be shared with others. I love stories and when I go back to Australia I’d love to study mythology/folklore.
I love hosting dinners, sharing books/music with friends and finding new places to explore/stories to tell.

  • More details about your skills

Profession wise I am a teacher, I worked in rural Australia last year teaching which was an incredible and eye opening experience. I love gardening, I lived in a small house with a well established garden that had to be maintained. I’ve always grown up with a garden which meant building garden beds, preparing the beds, planting, watering ect. We’ve got goats at our house so I love goats, chickens, fish, cats. Friends and neighbours have had pigs, cows, donkeys, sheep which have required looking after on numerous occasions while they are away. The area where I grew up is quite heavily into forest regeneration after biodiversity loss with British colonisation, so I have spent many hours planting trees at my parents property to hold up embankments and to reintroduce native species (animals). Watching a forest you have planted grow overtime is one of the greatest feelings in the world. I don't mind physical activity/work and am very open to learning new skills as I travel!

  • What else ...

I’m very much a country mouse not a city one. I’d love the opportunity to build my practical skills around taking care of and making a living from the land in a way that doesn’t disrupt the natural world so much. Similarly, I would love to develop my practical skills around building/construction as I have done a bit helping friends build their houses but that was a while ago.
