Hi! I’m Ira — a PhD student currently awaiting my defense, originally from Kazakhstan and now based in Germany. As I wrap up my dissertation on nuclear history, environmental legacies, and international cooperation, I’m taking time to explore the world and contribute to meaningful projects. Beyond the research, I deeply care about both human and more-than-human lives affected by the aftermath of nuclear testing, pollution, and other man-made environmental harms. One of my dreams is to one day open a proper shelter for cats and dogs in Kazakhstan — and I’d love to learn more about how people create grassroots initiatives that work and grow.
I’m happiest when helping out — whether it’s in the garden, with animals, teaching languages, or supporting local efforts. If your project has heart and purpose, I’d love to be part of it and bring some calm and warm energy with me :)

* Writing, research, and translation: I have strong experience writing, editing, and translating in English and Russian (with some German). I can support content creation, proofreading, or language learning.
* Grassroots animal care: I’ve helped care for stray dogs in Kazakhstan and understand how animal support efforts work from the ground up.
* Photography & visual content: I can help document your project, take portraits, or create visual content for social media.
* Event & workshop organization: I’ve organized lectures and seminars, and I enjoy helping create spaces where people can connect and learn.
* DIY: I like organizing and improving spaces, and I'm open to basic handy tasks.
* Gardening & outdoor work: I enjoy working outside and would love to learn more about growing food and caring for plants. I also recently helped my parents build their house, assisting with basic construction tasks and learning along the way, and am happy to learn more in this area, too.
