Description
Hi! My name is David, I’m 29 years old, and I live in Oslo, Norway. I’m completely new to this website and hope that my openness and transparency will be appreciated by a potential host, so that we both end up having a great experience.

I graduated as an architect two years ago and would love to contribute in any way I can within this field, from drawings to visualizations - to help bring your vision to life. Beyond my computer skills, I enjoy working outdoors. People often tell me that I’m a handy person, and I love building things. Most of my experience comes from academic work, where we designed structures and built them at a 1:1 scale on site. I’ve added a photo of one of my models (a Heliodon - a blue - colored sun analysis tool) that I designed and made from scratch to illustrate some of my skills. I would be more than happy to do any kind of work related to buildings or art.

Art has been part of my life for as long as I can remember, and I paint whenever I have time or want to express my feelings on a canvas (I’ve also added some of my paintings to the photo gallery). I would love to try making a mosaic if the opportunity arises!

In my free time, I travel, hike in the mountains, kayak occasionally, swim, and love spending time in nature. I’m a huge fan of chasing the northern lights and photographing them, which brings me a lot of joy. Over the past few years, I traveled a lot to Italy with my previous partner and fell in love with the culture and language. I have some basic knowledge of Italian, which I’d also like to improve. I’m also interested in working with plants and learning more about how to cultivate them. I’m open to most tasks and eager to learn new things.

I enjoy listening to music, having interesting conversations with people, sharing meals, and simply enjoying each other’s company. At the same time, I also appreciate having some personal time to focus on my own work and value privacy when needed.

I recently came back home after staying almost three months at Silvio’s place. No words can really describe what an incredible experience I’ve had with him, his family and all the people I’ve met during my stay.

Silvio has been the most humble, funny, and knowledgeable host! We shared stories, had deep conversations and he showed me how to… read more prepare Sicilian food, which I almost cried over several times while eating it. I mean, the food was just out of this world. He is such an amazing cook and baker!

During my stay he was kind enough to spend his time teaching me how to play the piano, which has been a dream of mine for years (Thank you so so much for all the lessons and everything that came from them!). I was also greatly inspired by both him and his daughter Silvia whom I had the pleasure of becoming friends with. They are both very talented and I enjoyed listening to them play the piano so much.

As for the rest of the family, they are such warm and welcoming people. They were every bit as lovely as Silvio and I truly felt at home, running to Grandma’s house for lunch with Cico (the dog) by my side, through the garden full of orange and lemon trees covered by the warmth of the Sicilian sun made it all feel like a dream.

As I stayed there for a few months I also had the chance to meet several Workawayers from Germany, Hungary, USA, and the UK. They were all inspiring people who shared their food, stories, music, art, and even dancing with us. I might even start taking tango lessons after this experience!

As for my tasks, I worked in the garden, harvested oranges and had the opportunity to create a mosaic for his outdoor space. I also contributed to the design and construction of his workshop/garage, which we built together. Great fun! In addition, I worked on graphic design for labels for his products as well as other art projects.

He suggested many hikes and places to visit during my free time which made the whole experience even better. The surroundings are beautiful. I fell in love with Sferracavallo which is about 10 minutes away and Capaci around 15 minutes away by bike. Mondello was lovely too but in my experience it doesn’t compare to those places where you can watch the sunset as they face more towards the west.

All in all, I feel very very lucky that I had the opportunity to stay there. Silvio, thank you so much for everything, you are simply amazing!
