Active Family Farm in Southern Spain Looking for Hands-On Help Renovating a Campervan and Farmhouses – Surf, Farm Animals & Adventure!

¡Hola! We're a big, warm-hearted, and very active family living on a beautiful cork and cattle farm 400 hectares in the hills between Los Barrios and Algeciras, Southern Spain – just 30 minutes from Tarifa, 15 minutes from Gibraltar, and an hour from Málaga airport (easy BlaBlaCar or bus access). Our lifestyle is all about healthy living, staying busy outdoors, and enjoying the amazing natural surroundings.

We’re currently looking for an active, motivated volunteer during September 2025 to help with a few exciting renovation projects, including:

A restoration of our vintage Airstream campervan - we need someone experienced in carpintary and cabinet making ideally.

Fixing up a few farm houses and outdoor structures.

The ideal person would be hands-on, energetic, and have some experience or skills in property renovation, carpentry, or general DIY.

    🌾 About Us
    We're a family of five:

Ben & Cat, both very welcoming and always around to support

Archie,18-year-old boy - who is off travelling in South America

    Leon, 16-year-old boy

    Ines, 15-year-old girl

Plus lots cousins close by on the farm and our extended animal family!

We live on a working cork and cattle farm. Ben's main business is the farm school which is just next door to our home ( Granja Escuela de Los Barrios).

    – full of animals, friendly local workers, and often a few visiting school groups learning about farm life and local.

🛠️ A Day in the Life Here
Here’s what a typical day might look like:

    07:30 – Wake up

    07:45 – Healthy breakfast

08:00–14:00 – Work on the camper or houses (with breaks, of course!)

    14:00 – Help prepare lunch

    14:30 – Family lunch together

15:00 – Tidy up, then rest

And the afternoon to do as you please. We have bicycles you can use to get around.

    21:00 – Dinner

22:00 – Chill time or early night

We keep ourselves very active, and there's always something happening – so we’d love to host someone who enjoys being on the go and doesn’t mind getting their hands dirty.

🏞️ Things to Do Around Us
When you're not working, there are loads of adventures waiting right here on the farm and in the local area:

Mountain biking, hiking & trail running

Cliff jumping, wild swimming in the farm’s natural lake

    Fishing and dirt biking

Day trips to Tarifa (famous for its surf and Moroccan vibes)

Ferry across to Morocco – just 60 minutes away

    🧑‍🔧 Who We're Looking For
We're hoping to find someone who is:

    Practical and physically active

Experienced in building/renovation/carpentry (or at least handy)

    Sociable, curious, and easy-going

Genuinely excited about cultural exchange and daily life with a Spanish family

If you love the outdoors, want to be part of a buzzing family atmosphere, and enjoy building cool things with your hands – you’ll love it here.

Let us know your availability for September 2025, and feel free to ask any questions.

    ¡Hasta pronto!

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Staying with us means becoming part of a busy, welcoming Andalusian-Spanish family where no two days are the same! You'll experience daily life on a traditional cork and cattle farm, help with hands-on renovation projects, and join our big family for shared meals, beach trips, and plenty of laughter. You'll also have the chance to learn about local farming traditions, including cork harvesting, livestock care, and how rural life works in southern Spain. With young people around all the time, you’ll practice Spanish naturally in a relaxed setting — and we love learning about your language and culture too! You’ll meet extended family, local farm workers, and visitors at the farm school next door. Whether it's trying homemade food, watching a football match with the kids, or heading out to the surf spots of Tarifa, this is a truly immersive and lively cultural exchange.
