Description
We are a married couple who have 3 grown children. Doug has had Parkinson's Disease for the past 23 years which is one reason we would welcome a little extra help around our 17 acres and with his care. Our house is located 10 miles from Salmon, Idaho which is a gorgeous area and our land has a beautiful creek that runs through our property. We love to garden, hobby homestead make soap, we love to cook, can, and dehydrate food of all kinds. We can use help processing wild game and fish such as elk, deer, chickens, turkeys and grouse. We have a small lavender and herb garden where tasks include pruning, watering, harvesting and general tending. We have lots of yard work as well as cutting trees down to clear brush and day to day maintenance. We only have a cat at this time since we are trying to travel more and can't keep chickens, ducks, turkeys like we have had in the past. We would welcome some help with general maintenance and always need assistance with building projects such as refurbishing our log cabin with pressure washing, staining, painting and chinking . We have a lot of tasks to do! We have hosted 50 guests and we absolutely love ❤️ this amazing help/home share organization!

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
We hope to offer a “live off the land”mentality to all who visit our home. We grow, gather or hunt for much of our food and we hope to teach those who come here a new, more sustainable way of life. Healthy eating is a way of life for us but we love to bake as well. We raised our own chickens for the freezer, fished for trout, harvested a moose and a nice whitetail deer this year so there will be plenty of good all natural proteins to share with you. We offer loads of local vegetables and canned goods as well. We welcome anyone who wants to cook or grill for us as well. The kitchen is open to all!

Help
We welcome volunteers who are interested in our simple way of life. We are also looking for those interested in learning ”back to basic" ways of life and making do with what natural resources we have available locally as our closest large city is 2 hours away. We have a large rustic log cabin with plenty of room to have your own basement living quarters and upstairs bathroom as well as abundant outdoor opportunities for camping, hunting, fishing, hiking and whitewater rafting. We live on the edge of the Frank Church Wilderness area that provides many outdoor recreational activities.

What else ...
We live in a very remote part of the state that offers many outdoor recreational opportunities such as hunting, fishing, whitewater rafting, lakes, hiking, horseback riding, biking and birdwatching. The Frank Church Wilderness, located nearby offers pristine mountains, lakes, Hot springs, rivers and unending beauty. We have raised 3 children, had 5 foster kids, hosted 2 foreign exchange students and one seasonal worker and over 50 Workaway guests. They have all thoroughly blessed us and enjoyed the outdoors here in Idaho. We encourage everyone who lives here to be part of the family by pitching in with chores, projects, gardening, helping neighbors, cooking or any other activity we are involved in. We are a house full of lots of love and affection and we encourage anyone who wants to live the American Dream to come try it with us!
