    Description

Hello! My name is Selvaggia, and a few years ago I decided to take on the slightly mad challenge of reviving Castello del Calcione—a beautiful estate, located in the heart of Tuscany, that has been in my family since 1482. What started as a personal adventure has grown into a full-blown project focused on sustainable hospitality, cultural experiences, and bringing this magical place back to life. We host guests from all over the world, organize events and experiences, and are slowly but surely restoring the estate’s buildings, gardens, and soul. The property is divided into the Castle, which is a family home we are happy to open up to guests to experience "real" castle life (we are not a hotel !). The castle is then surrounded by several villas that we rent out as holiday homes. We offer several activities and experiences such as truffle hunts, horseback riding, e-bike trails, canoeing experiences on the lake, wine tastings, allowing the guests to truly experience what the nature we cherish has to offer.
I want to honour the past, but inscribe this place into contemporary times and allow it to find its new identity in these hectic times.

Calcione is a unique crossroads where international perspectives meet deep Tuscan roots. Our team is a lively mix of locals and people from all over the world, and we love sharing skills, stories, and laughs over good food and beautiful views. This is a chance to experience Tuscany from the inside—working side by side with a family that's been here for generations, while connecting with people from different cultures and backgrounds.
We’re located deep in the Tuscan countryside, off the beaten tracks and surrounded by forests, fields, and endless views—magical, but definitely remote.
On your time off, you’ll have the chance to explore nearby gems like Siena, Arezzo, Montepulciano, Pienza, Montalcino, and the many hot springs and natural parks in the area. Whether you are looking for nature, culture, history, it's all located a short drive away.

  • Help

    Help

We’re looking for hands-on, adaptable people who aren’t afraid to roll up their sleeves and jump into different kinds of work depending on the season and the projects we have going on. Help is needed across several areas: from welcoming guests in the houses or in the castle, moving furniture, and supporting our hospitality operations, to gardening, vegetable garden upkeep, making drinks, serving food. Tasks can vary day to day—one moment you might be helping set up for a dinner event, the next planting herbs or repainting a wall. We value flexibility, a good sense of humor, and a genuine curiosity for rural life.
I strongly believe that places are made of people and their energy.

Compensation aligns with market standards and depends on your role, experience, and the time you stay. We provide room and board, and are happy to discuss details based on your profile and availability. The minimum wage will be covered if not more !

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

You’ll have your own clean and comfortable private room and bathroom in one of the villas surrounding the castle. Common areas like the kitchen, living room, and outdoor spaces are shared with our team, staff, and some occasional friend or guest passing through, creating a relaxed and friendly communal vibe. Basic food is covered—we usually do groceries together, and often cook and eat as a group, especially in the evenings. There’s always something bubbling on the stove, fresh veggies from the garden, and good conversation around the table. It’s a simple but cozy setup, with everything you need to feel at home.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Having a driving license is a big plus, and we can usually provide a car for local errands or weekend adventures. Life here follows a natural rhythm—busy at times, peaceful at others—and we value respect, openness, and good vibes in the house. We don’t have many strict rules, but we do care a lot about shared spaces being clean and the energy being kind.
