We are a parental school association with students from nursery to secondary school in the first belt of Turin, based in the fantastic woods of the Palazzina di Caccia of Stupinigi.
We are looking for a person to do an workaway experience that goes to the school to teach and help with classroom activities.
The candidate we are looking for must be native or in English, or in French or in Spanish speakers.
The dates that we are seeking candidates are from September 2020; we are available to discuss any different needs that the candidate may have.
In our school, there are children in the Children’s House - Casa dei bambini (kindergarten), in Casa dei fanciulli (primary school) and in Casa dei ragazzi (secondary school). The structure of the school is a fantastic house divided into three areas with a large park where children can run and play safely.
Our project stems from the desire to be able to offer a training / educational path inspired by methods such as the Montessori method and outdoor pedagogy. The Montessori method helps the child to develop their natural propensities to self-manage and self-discipline themselves and, moreover, to sharpens their ability to learn spontaneously and express their curiosity for the world around them. Outdoor pedagogy offers an alternative and avant-garde way to understand concepts, information and data in a natural way through the perception of the external world and direct experience with it.
The international volunteer must be a person interested in working in our school that is a non- traditional school that uses both the Montessori Pedagogy and the outdoor pedagogy. The volunteer has then to be curious and willing to learn a new way of education. His/her role is to interact with the “young” associates so that they can better accomplish the tasks given by the teachers.
For the first 4 weeks, the Volunteer will not propose activities on his/her own; he/she will be an important support in the day-to-day life. He/she will be a dynamic, collaborative, attentive and responsible supporting staff member acting under the supervision of a dedicated tutor.
After 4 weeks, the volunteer will be asked to organize small laboratory activities in their mother tongue. The Volunteer will choose the subject of the laboratories so that it is more comfortable; We would prefer that volunteers chose the subjects that are aligned with their interests and passions. This attitude will certainly intensify the enrichment and the cultural exchange with the “young” associates and is one of the primary reasons why We decided to start this project.
From this point on, the volunteer will gain more independence. He/she will begin to developing projects independently, though under the constant supervision of the person in charge of the class. At this point, the volunteer can be the sole supervisor of the children in open spaces where a senior educator can intervene promptly if necessary.
Babysitting and creative play
For this project to be the most effective, Volunteers will have constant, consistent and mandatory training.
Once the confirmation of participation in the international volunteering project, volunteers will be provided with a virtual starter pack with all the necessary content for their experience. Volunteers will therefore receive a training on the environment there is in the place even before their arrival.
During their stay, every 15 days there will be a meeting with referent team and volunteers to listen and share topics they want to discuss in order to have a productive collaboration. During these sessions, Volunteers can ask for further material such as audio / videos / readings to deeper their Montessori Knowledge.
We believe that the payment of the volunteer work is rewarded by the experience itself, a period in here teaches many things, problem solving, coding and after a few months volunteers go home changed with an enriched energetic and cultural background.
Not everything can be quantified economically, humanity and the world of education need people who are capable of having experiences that nourish others and themselves.
This host offers accommodation and payment.
The structure requires 3 full time days from 8.30 to 16.30 per week. The schedule for each individual volunteer must be agreed in advance with Mara (president of the association) and with the contact person of the “home” in which Volunteers will carry out instruction.
We ask for maximum awareness and responsibility to avoid confusingly changing the days of participation in the project. For any absences, we ask that Volunteers communicate them in a reasonable time. The volunteer is seen as a positive resource, therefore we ask for maximum seriousness.
The hospitality will be offered by the families of our team; each situation will be handled according to the
logistics of the house and the compatibility between volunteer and the family.
The volunteer will be involved in the matching process before her/his arrival in order to check mutual agreement.
