Description
We are older gay male couple with 110 acres which we are restoring to its natural state. Our property has a conservation easement and is located in a tiny hamlet. There are multiple buildings including a chapel which we renovated and has been added to the registry of National Historic Buildings. We have restored our wetland, worked to improve our timber stand, cleaned up much debris, and are attempting to create a sustainable eco-friendly landscape. We are nurturing a vegetable garden filled with perennial and annual vegetables and are continuing to improve the buildings on our property. We are not a business and do not sell our produce.
The hamlet is located in the Butternut Valley Watershed in upstate New York known for its water quality and beauty.
We are looking for workawayers interested in restoring landscape informed by permaculture principles, wiling to do manual tasks, and create art from debris.Types of help and learning opportunities

Workawayers will also learn how to do basic repairs on structures e.g. residing and painting. Hosts will work alongside workawayers and are available to practice English for those who would want that.
Help
We need help with projects e.,g. tending and improving our perennial vegetable garden, painting, improving our shop (building workbenches), preparing firewood for the winter, digging out a small pond in the garden.

Cabin equipped with bedroom and front room with kitchen, dining, and lounging area. Cabin with compost toilet and dry sink. Drinking water from local spring and wash water collected from rain barrels. The second option is a yurt with access to running water and compost toilet
A creek runs through property and there is pond for swimming up the hill. Utilities and internet provided. Best if you have a car.
Hosts can share some meals with workawayers but the lodging has a fully equipped kitchen and BBQ for workawayers to prepare meals. We will provide staples like rice, beans, coffee, milk, eggs, and harvest vegetables from the garden together for meals. What else ...

I stayed in the yurta, an amazing location! You can see it in the pic. Everything ( including the kitchen and the bathroom) was clean, comfortable, and well equipped. I loved it. The property is magical, more than a hundred acres of woodlands, meadows, and gardens,… read more
