    Description

Hallöchen, we are a family living on an old farm in Northern Germany. To be exact in Uelzen, which is right between Hamburg and Hanover. We bought the property in 2019 and have since been renovating the house and tidying up the garden as good as we can, but we could really use a helping hand or two.

Our names are Dana and Michael and we have two children, one of whom doesn´t live with us anymore as he (Constantin) is almost 26 years old. Our daughter is almost 20 years old and finishes school this year. She is doing a gap year after school and wants to travel for a bit. Michael works in IT and Dana is a graphic and web designer. Also part of our family are our two dogs, cats and a horse. Because of an injury our horse unfortunately can´t be ridden anymore. But if you know anything about horses you can groom her and do some liberty work with her if you like.

We are usually very busy working and taking care of our property which unfortunately doesn´t leave much time for family quality time, but we always eat together as a family and try walking our dogs together. We´d love for you to be a part of that.

We have hosted exchange students from France, Italy and Columbia before and really appreciate the cultural exchange.

Or property is over 8000 sq meters big and needs a lot of attention. We have a couple of old barns and a hobby workshop. In one of the barns we keep our horses. One is our own and the others belong to someone else, but we take of all of them together. I´m saying it´s an old farm, but we are not running it as an actual farm. It is our private homestead.

    Help

There are many different things to do around here:

    - help running errands
    - feeding the animals (horse experience preferred but not a must)
    - mowing the lawn
    - cleaning out the horse stable
    - general cleaning in the house
    - sometimes painting
    - sanding down furniture, doors (and door frames), window frames and refinishing them
    - cut down some trees (only if you are experienced with chain saws)
    - stacking logs (also splitting the wood beforehand)
    - walking the dogs (only when you are experienced as one of our dogs can be a bit difficult)
    - general garden maintenance
    - there are a lot of things around here that need repairing you can help out with

As we are really busy we can´t supervise you all the time. We need a self starter here with a good work ethic, who does the job properly. There are some things we will do together but things like stacking logs you can do on your own.

    Accommodation

We have a bedroom for two available, shared bathroom and kitchen. We would prefer to welcome someone with a camper van (or maybe a tent during summer time). Though, don´t hesitate to reach out if you want to stay in the house.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

There is public transport available here. The next bus stop is a two minute walk away from the house from where you can go to Uelzen. There is a big train station from where you can go about anywhere. It takes a little over an hour to get to Hamburg and Hanover from there. Lüneburg is also worth a visit. It´s even closer than Hamburg. For a day or rather weekend trip you can also go to Berlin by train. I think it only takes like 2.5 hours.
We drive to Uelzen quite often as we usually grocery shop there, so we can always give you a lift there too. It only takes 12 minutes by car.
In Uelzen you can go to the cinema, the bowling center or the public pool. But there are for sure some more things to do. There are a couple of good restaurants and cafes we can recommend.
