Description
Authentic Farmhouse from 1905 on the Swedish island of Gotland in need of gentle love and care.
Here you'll find an organic farmer, his nephew, a tiny house builder and a couple of volunteers taking care of 3,5ha large mixed vegetable & flower patch where people are welcome to come and pick their own vegetables (and flowers) or help themselves in the farm shop.
You'll be greeted by the neighbours cows who graze on the fields we no longer have use for since the farmer converted from dairy production to vegetable growing.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
You'll stay in an authentic farmhouse from 1905 with lots of history and live with a farmer born and raised there with lots of stories to tell. Gotland itself has even more history of course, as Gotland has been inhabited since approximately 7200 BC and is full of remnants and influences of days gone by. You'll be immersed in the Swedish language!

Help
Workawayers will only be helping in the private home and gardens, and won't be helping with any business activities.
We request help around the house and with cooking meals (with our own vegetables as the main ingredients).
There's plenty of renovation "opportunities", lots of timber (from our own forest) to be used in all kinds of projects, a garden in need of pruning and grass in need of mowing.
We'd like to rebuild the old chicken coop and welcome some chickens back to the farm this year so we have our own protein source, and create a better system for our bokashi compost "soil factory". There are plenty of window frames (and other wooden surfaces) in need of a fresh layer of paint - including the old outhouse that we'd love to reinstate -, fences that need attention, and lots of weeds in unwanted places.
No shortage of things to do in other words!Languages

Large farmhouse with 4 private bedrooms (1 that can accommodate 2 people comfortably, and one single) and a large communal area reserved for volunteers, with a separate entrance. Kitchen and bathroom is shared. (hence the plan to reinstate the outhouse ;))
What else ...
The farm is a bike ride away from the beach, though a car is not a luxury if you want to go into town on a regular basis. The nearest busstop is quite a hike away!

There were lots of different tasks we could choose from everyday (for example raking, organizing, gardening or cooking) and the work was never too hard.
We got to know a lot of great people (and cats) that grew really close to our hearts and made it… read more
