Description
Hello!
We are a young couple with no children. We have two very well behaved dogs, and several horses in a small breeding operation. We just moved to a small equestrian property 15 minutes north of Cochrane, 30 minutes north west of Calgary, 1 hour from Banff. The grounds are in rough shape from a massive gopher infestation and the fences need a lot of repair!
There used to be a beautiful garden as well, but it is all grown over and needs weeding and pruning. There are also opportunities to work with the horses for the right individuals.
I work in the city Monday-Thursday, my husband ranches on a separate property. On weekends we tend to be out doing activities with the horses, or never ending property maintenance.
I have an extremely busy schedule; so a self starter type person is very important. Someone who can look around and see what needs to be done.
Workaways will greatly benefit having their OWN transportation. Unfortunately, I don’t have a lot of spare time to tour guests around.
Accommodations and food will be provided, although you may be on your own for most meals.
We have a large private room with its own bathroom available, and would prefer to host a couple or 2 friends, or perhaps even a family, because we are away at work most of the week and don’t want you to get lonely. We can also provide pick up/drop off at the airport, and you are welcome to catch a ride into Calgary with me when I commute to work, but renting your own car would be essential for road tripping to Banff or Jasper, exploring the mountains etc as we don’t have an extra vehicle to loan out.
Our house is warm and inviting, with a very casual laid back atmosphere where you can come and go as you please, or join us on our outings.
From our house you have a beautiful view of the Rocky Mountains. The large 15 acre property is peaceful and private.
We enjoy ranching, hunting, fishing, and everything outdoors. we are very involved with the Calgary Stampede, we raise cattle and breed/train/show Norwegian Fjord horses, and we love sharing our Western Canadian heritage. We would prefer non-vegetarian because we have a lot of beautiful organic meat from our own ranch and hunting/fishing adventures to share, but we are respectful of your choices and can make any accommodations! -

Accommodation
A large private room with a giant window, closet, and bathroom.
Meals are casual, most days you will have to help yourself.
Help yourself to breakfast, if there are special dietary requirements we can work around the groceries needed for that.
When we cook dinners at home we have wild game or fish we harvested ourselves. Elk, bison, deer, walleye, salmon etc. or our family raised Alberta beef. Vegetarians may not be a suitable fit. :)
Location & Logistics:
We are located 15 minutes north of Cochrane, 30 minutes north west of Calgary, 1 hour from Banff. Although very close to Calgary, you are in rural Alberta and public transportation is very limited in our province. With good notice and communication, we may be able to give you a ride to Calgary, Cochrane or Canmore. But this is by no means a guarantee of transport. If you’re looking to regularly hangout in towns and cities, this may not be the place for you (unless you have a car, of course). -
